Ok...so at what point did the National Football League become the International Futbol Americano League???

The way I see it, there are a few issues with these international games they're talking about:

1) Loss of home field advantage for a team
2) The NFL is making money off this and the stadium where it would have been hosted is losing funding
3) Players may have diarrhea during the game (RUN!! RUN!!! RUN!!)
4) The NFL is using its power to market to areas who are not paying for the team (example: Wisconson tax payers own the Packers...do they get the decision if they're the game that gets sent out?)

Now we're outsourcing our NFL games..C"MON!!!! WTF?!?!?!?

I do, since I live in Arizona and would like to see my HOME team playing at HOME during a HOME game.

Ok, consider the fact that no one cares about those teams so no one speaks up about it. So then the NFL sees it as a success and then starts outsourcing even more games that people DO care about. This is only the first step.

We'll see. I bet if New England or Pittsburgh or another popular team is tapped to lose a home game to another country, there'll be hell to pay.

I'm in AZ and i care...season ticket holders are like WTF here...they have to give up a home game because the NFL thinks something good can come of this?
sure the gen pop of AZ is probobly 5 to one people that come from mexico to ones that actually are legal residents and thus it could appeal to people from there...but still i want to see my cards play crappily in america...

The free market is great, let it decide.

And its deciding that there is money to be made off of Mexicans.

They should have played the Falcons in Mexico....

I'll let you guess the reason why.

Looking at the way they played tonight, I think they should play there more often ... OR maybe you guys should actually show up to the games in AZ, then the team wouldn't be so willing to play on foreign soil.

Seriously, how many non-season ticket holders would show up to a 49rs vs. Cards game?

Shame on the NFL for trying to make a little money on an otherwise throwaway game. I guarantee more people tuned in to watch, and they may have made some fans in another market.

Calm down. The reason the stadium filled up is because of the novelty. There are few real football fans in Mexico, definitely not enough to support more than one or two games a year - definitely not enough to sustain an actual team (if that's what your hinting at). Any games played there in the future will most likely be throwaway games anyway. It's too damned far and too damned hostile a physical environment (7400ft elevation and heavy air pollution) to play a game that actually matters. It'll only serve as a gimmick to lure people to watch the Lions play the Texans.

Look at baseball, they tried to pull that stunt with the Expos playing in Puerto Rico. The first games were a wild success, but subsequent games were a miserable failure. And those guys are die-hard baseball fans in PR.

Here's a link about London
Tagliabue joined the ESPN broadcasters and mentioned that the mayor of some other foreign city...maybe Luxembourg?, wanted a game, too.
I'm sure Japan would pay to host a game as well. The Japanese really seem to love gimmicks, especially those on an international scale.

They seem to also have a large fan base in Germany.

The possibility of a regular-season game coming to Toronto is out there, but could there be more?

"Well, my interest in an NFL team in Toronto is well known, I've never abandoned it," Godfrey said yesterday.

"But an NFL team coming because of this trip is a bit of a stretch. I've been invited, as have others, to see the first regular-season NFL game played outside the U.S.

Supposedly there are 20 million NFL fans in Mexico.

Uh, Mexico is a very big place and I'm sure that figure is significantly skewed by all the border towns. That's enough to watch the games on national television (in Mexico), but definitely not enough to fill a stadium more than a couple times a year.

edit: Also, what do they mean by "fans"? Do they mean people who enjoy watching a game or people willing to part with $50+/person to attend a game?

The Cardinals (1-3) agreed to give up a home game to make history, and the NFC West rivals played in front of 68,398 more fans than they drew for last season's meeting at Sun Devil Stadium. The crowd topped the previous NFL record for a regular-season game, when 102,368 fans saw the Los Angeles Rams play the 49ers at the L.A. Coliseum on Nov. 10, 1957.

Actually, that isn't the point I was driving at. If it can prove to be a success in a different city all the time...they could end up having 1 game per week in a different country. For example:

week 1: az vs. sf in London
week 2: green bay vs. texas in Perth
week 3: titans vs. jags in Dresden...etc..etc..

That is what I'm worried about, not an expansion from another country. One of the reasons I know AZ has problems getting people at games is because they are one of the most expensive teams to go see....what kind of retard move is that..<sigh>

I'll investigate the ticket prices for all teams and post.

I wish I would have realized that Mexico City was 7300 feet above sea level, I would have picked up Rackers.

Imagine what Elam, Vanderjagt, and Viniteri could do up there!
