If a team attempts a field goal on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down and they MISS it, do they get to keep trying until they run out of downs?

If the ball is kicked, then no they don't. However, if they fumble the snap on third down and recover the ball, then they can still kick it on 4th down.

but why would anyone kick a fg on anything except the 4th down...? You cant be THAT afraid of interceptions/fumbes...can you?

If it's 2nd down, 15 seconds to go in the game, down by 2. Instead of risking an interception, it might be better to kick the field goal and not try to get a little closer. It happens often enough.

Usually when there is like 10 seconds left...a team will kick a FG on 3rd down so that if the holder messes up, they can try again on 4th. I think that there is a rule I think that states that if a field goal doesnt reach the field goal post (meaning it stays in bounds), the other team can run it back...I think that's something teams can do at the end of a half.

Yeah, I think the blocking team can run the ball back, but it pretty much never happens that the field goal kick does not go out of bounds.

Today in the Titans/Lions game, there were 5 seconds left. The Titans kicked a FG on first down. The ANNOUNCER for CBS said they would have "3 more tries" at a field goal if they missed. I thought he was mistaken....if they would have missed it would have turned over to the Lambs.

I dun get it, was it 4th down or 1st down? what's this bout turning over? also, with 5secs left, it shouldnt matter what down it is, gotta kick or game over

btw, good thing the Lambs are in the NFL cause the Minnesota t-Wolves would eat em alive :D

He didnt say they would have 3 more tries if they missed. He said they would have 3 more tries if they have a bad or fumbled snap(i remember thinking about it after he said it).
