NFL Draft 2008 Starts Today!

. . .the general consensus is Ken Phillips, safety, from the University of Miami. I hope not. While the Giants need a safety, this guy isn't worth a first rounder. Also, rumors running rampant that Jeremy Shockey is on the trading block, and the New Orleans Saints are offering some picks. Hope they can strike a deal. Shockley has become more trouble than he's worth and a clubhouse cancer.

I hope it's not Kenny Phillips as well.

I think they should go for best player available with that pick, since they have no glaring holes at this point.

I love Shockey, but i know hes gone. As long as we dont draft Dan Conner with that pick im fine. Kenny Phillips is good though. Im hoping we take Manningham with that pick though cause we could use 1 more WR and he wont be around later, while i think theres a chance Phillips would be. But we need to draft S.

Actually most board have them selecting Safety Tyrell Johnson out of Arkansas State, which I find to be a solid pick. He's a Jerry Reese guy: small school, smart in the academics (He's starting his Masters already), plus the kid has great speed and build.

If we don't address safety with that pick, then we MUST address linebacker; it's been a glaring hole we've meagerly patched with players like Arrington and Mitchell for way too long. If Dan Connor is around I say we nab him. The next big need is corner if any of the first rounder's are still on the board (Flowers, Talib). I'm not so sure Webster is the real deal now, and Madison isn't getting any younger.

My money is on Johnson or Connor pending availability.

why is the draft starting so late this year? usually it begins before noon but now i have to wait half day to see it🙁

More at WR? With Plax and co. you guys are good enough at WR that you should be looking at other holes like at LB and as everone else has mentioned, Safety

I hope the Giants don't go with Dan Connor. He's overrated, in my opinion. Too slow on a team that is already slow on the defensive side of the ball. And too small for the middle.

For the first time in years, I won't be watching the draft. My Vikes don't have a first round pick, and they are starting it way too late, IMO.

I like to hear what others think of their teams picks though, so I'll be watching this thread.

Only two rounds on day one, with a shortened time for each selection. It is being done strictly for TV, which is a horrible idea IMO.

Is this the weakest draft ever or what? I'm not making a statement, just asking.

Actually graded out pretty high with good talent available well into the deeper rounds. Teams that draft well find quality picks late anyways, and find unsigned prospects that turn into major contributors. Here are four recent undrafted free agents that went on to become pro bowl players:

Joshua Cribbs, Antonio Gates, Wille Parker, and James Harrison.

so dumb. i enjoyed the draft because i could wake up, watch the draft all day, then do something later at night. now i still have 2 hours to kill before the glory begins🙁

Yeah, about it starting so late, I woke up looking to see who had been taken and it wasn't starting for 2 more hours, thats silly. As for making it for TV, what sort os total loser spends hours watching people get drafted? I mean I look on espn.com a few times during the day but sitting there waiting 10 minutes for each pick? I would rather watch paint dry.

Rumors are running wild that the Giants and the Saints have reached an agreement on Shockey. Right now it's being reported the Saints have given the Giants their second and sixth round picks. Who knows. . .

Well, 10 minutes between picks, while long, is a lot better than the 15 minutes between picks like it used to be for the first round..........

But its still only 6 picks an hour, so like 60 seconds of excitement for 59 minutes of boredom.

I'm ambivalent about the Falcons taking Ryan. I'm not sure if he rated the 3rd overall pick but QB is a position of need. I had hoped they would have traded down some because they have so many holes it isn't funny.

Not too many surprises thus far. If Ryan was the Falcon's man all along which must be true, there's no way they could have traded down. Kansas City and the Jets would have given him serious consideration if not taking him at either slot.

The Jet's pick should be interesting, if not hit or miss.

Edit: It was hit 😉
