All he said to the fans was "I'll be back". Fans were taunting, cursing. Rivers doesn't curse.

Unless you're blind, Rivers was completely mouthing off to the fans near the end of the game. He's notorious for it. He's mouthed off against Cutler for no reason at all, as well as the Raiders fans--the guy has a league wind known reputation for mouthing off...just like *gasp* Ryan Leaf back in the day.

He's by far the biggest QB douche in the NFL, most non-Charger fans will agree.
http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse...ikes-to-run-his-mouth/

Even his own teammate LT doesn't want to sit on the bench next to him.. and that says a lot.
You are completely wrong.

First off, Cutler was the one who was mouthing off first. Rivers' teammates....you know, the ones you say don't like him? Yeah, they were the ones who came to his defense to say Cutler was mouthing off. You know, the other two Charger players you say that were really running their mouths in that video? Yeah, Philip was helping them out, but Cutler was the one doing the mouthing first. Oh, and Cutler was getting his ass handed to him, so I'm sure he hates that....in fact, no Chargers QB has ever owned the Broncos like Rivers has.

Second, Rivers doesn't curse. You can only do so much mouthing off without cursing, as all the other mouths in the league can attest to.

Third, did you by chance read the article written this week about how much Rivers' teammates love him, think he's a great father, man, teammate, etc?

Fourth, LT isn't averse to quite a bit of mouth himself. Plus, he's a bit of a prima donna, so even though there's no evidence to back up the assertion that he doesn't like Rivers, I could understand that he might harbor some resentment as Rivers is gradually taking over the team, while LT is not exactly getting it done lately.

Try and look beyond what the media is trying to create...and that's a story about Rivers that isn't accurate. They see an opportunity to have an ongoing story. It's really a non-issue. If they looked at every QB in the league as closely as Rivers is being scrutinized right now, and blew up every time another QB even pointed a finger, saying "yeah, that QB "xxx", he likes to talk.....plus showed it in commercials, etc....then you'd think that player was a douche, too.

But those QB's aren't in the AFC title game. Brady talks probably nearly as much as Rivers. Nobody is reporting how much he runs his mouth.

What's Rivers' record as a starter now...26-8? In two years? Pro Bowl first year as a starter and in the AFC title game the second, with a new coach and new offense?

Yep, he's a certified, badass QB. He's only going to get better from here if the system and player stay intact. Keep on hating, because he's going to keep on winning. He always has.

hehe, as a chargers fan, I thought he ran his mouth a bit too much, but it's great that you are setting some of the information straight. The local radio station here in SD has a special everyday on celeb sightings (rarely listen to this station except in the mornings for jeff and jer). He's been spotted a few times and the callers usually say he's very receptive and an overall nice guy who's usually found with his kids and wife.

hehe, donno, i was lol'ing when he did mouth off against the fans. I've been to many sporting events, and fans always shout crap at the stars. I've never seen an instance where the players would respond to them. It must've been actually a real treat for the fans to have a NFL star respond and start talking back at them. I doubt any hard feelings were left. I'd kill to have any sports star talk back at me. How awesome is that.

Pacfanweb: hahaha, you're full of crap, Brady doesn't talk nearly the amount of trash that Rivers does. The only time i've seen him talk trash was to Anthony Smith and that's only because he called out the Patriots and the receivers specifically in the media, and he also talked trash directly to brady during pre-game warmups.

Rivers talks trash whenever CONSTANTLY. Don't compare both QB's... Brady spends most of his time praising the opponent, Rivers is a complete douchebag.

Well, watching ESPN and one of the talk shows yesterday morning, I couldn't believe I heard one commentator say that the Chargers should send in players to hit Brady after the whistle blows...essentially after the play is over, or hit late, to try to injure him and put him out of the game. Said "It's football...take the penalty, just hurt Brady."

Yet when asked on another show later in the day if NE would be justified, considering his previous comments about SD trying to injure Brady, to send in a couple of defensive linemen (3rd stringers....disposable players) to hit Rivers in the knees even if the play was over, he bristled and said that'd just be dirty.

Seems some are grasping at straws to "help" out SD and as to what SD needs to do to win this game.....but NE cannot do the same thing. Some are just such hypocrites in all this.

(The early show was First Take on ESPN2....the later show was during a sports center Q&A segment and done as a followup to his comments)

What's Rivers' record as a starter now...26-8? In two years? Pro Bowl first year as a starter and in the AFC title game the second, with a new coach and new offense?

With the talent on his team, he would be the worst QB ever to not have a decent record. Having the best TE and RB in the leauge, and two capable backup RB's sure helps a developing QB. IMO Rivers has yet to show anything. He is a Mediocre player playing on a very talented team where his faults can be overlooked.

Obviously your knowledge of football is very limited, as evidenced by this statement.

Rivers was the best QB in college football when he was there. Best ever to play in the ACC.
He's 2nd in all time passing yards, 5th in touchdowns...and he didn't play in a run and shoot offense like some of the others on that list did.

All the experts say Rivers is a very good NFL QB. He CARRIED the team these last few games....you know, when LT was doing NOTHING, Gates was hurt?

These other talented players were on the team several years ago....why weren't the Chargers in the AFC title game then? The only big difference in the team from then to now is Rivers.

LOL are you sure? I thought the reason they made it this time is that Turner is Coach instead of Schotenhiemer (sp).

That said I don't think it will be as bad a deal as a lot make it out to be if Rivers doesn't start. Volceck might actually do a better job against the pats than Rivers, you know, being more composed, mature and all.

ESPN's AFC predictions: No love for the Bolts

Jeffri Chadiha: Patriots, 27-14

The Chargers have too many questions to make this game close.

Quarterback Philip Rivers is nursing a strained medial collateral ligament that has put his availability in doubt. Pro Bowl tight end Antonio Gates is still hobbled by the dislocated toe that he managed to play on in last week's win over Indianapolis. And while running back LaDainian Tomlinson is expected to play, it's difficult to know how much the hyperextended knee he suffered against the Colts will hamper him.

It's hard enough to beat New England when a team is healthy. When a team is as banged up as the Chargers, the Patriots should have no problem advancing to the Super Bowl.

John Clayton: Patriots, 28-20

The Chargers are a beast in the AFC, fueled by two playoff wins. Expect them to be a major factor in the Super Bowl race for the foreseeable future. The team is loaded with talent. Backups can step up and play like stars, and Philip Rivers has the leadership qualities to get through tough games and win.

But the beasts are playing in the East, and they are playing the Patriots at the worst possible time. The Patriots are 17-0, Tom Brady is at his absolute best and New England has the most talented offensive weapons in the NFL. Age and wear and tear might be catching up to their defense, but the Patriots win with their offense. Although the Chargers have improved dramatically since their Week 2 blowout loss in Foxborough, Mass., the Patriots still hold the cards.

Matt Mosley: Patriots, 38-24

The emergence of cornerback Antonio Cromartie gives the Chargers a better chance to contain receiver Randy Moss, but that's not enough to slow the Patriots' offense.

The Chargers are coming off an emotional victory over the Colts, but it's hard to sustain that type of effort over two weeks. I don't think the Chargers' offense has enough firepower to match the Patriots touchdown for touchdown, so this thing will be over early in the third quarter.

The Chargers' best chance of winning is to score a touchdown on defense or special teams. I just don't see that happening. Even if healthy, Philip Rivers won't have time to make plays downfield. The Patriots will dare him to throw while putting eight in the box to stop running back LaDainian Tomlinson or his understudy, Michael Turner. If the Chargers had a healthy Antonio Gates, I'd hold out more hope. But he'll once again be limited, as will Tomlinson and Rivers if they play.

Len Pasquarelli: Patriots, 31-20

San Diego cornerback Antonio Cromartie might be the best pure athlete on the field in this game. Unfortunately for the Chargers, they haven't figured out a way to clone him. The Chargers' pass rush will make things a little uncomfortable for Tom Brady, but the unflappable Pats quarterback will come up big again. There are just too many weapons on the New England offense.

Mike Sando: Patriots, 34-20

San Diego handled Indianapolis last week largely because the Colts couldn't mount a pass rush without Dwight Freeney.

The Patriots should be more effective with their pressure, making life tough for whichever quarterback leads the Chargers. Philip Rivers was peaking before spraining his right knee. If he plays, he could have a hard time making the first defender miss, a key to avoiding sacks. Backup Billy Volek was efficient in relief against the Colts, but the Patriots will be ready for him now that they know he might play.

The Chargers have the talent on defense to pressure Tom Brady and cover in the secondary, but injuries have caught up with them recently. And you wonder if they have the maturity to win in Foxborough.

The Patriots were quietly going about their business when Chargers defensive lineman Igor Olshansky inexplicably said he thought New England was "more worried" about this game than San Diego. The comments seemed to worry Chargers coach Norv Turner more than anyone. What's next, Rivers taunting Brady from the sideline after San Diego has taken a 3-0 lead?

Ummm i don't really put much stock in what a QB does in college. I mean Brady was a 6th round pick who wasn't all that special in college and look at him now.

And saying Rivers is a Good NFL QB is just wrong. Maybe mediocre is a bad choice of words but he isnt all that great. even looking at this season where he has 21TDs and 15Ints. That's only 6 more TD's than Ints, IMHO that is not good at all.

Actually those are almost identical numbers to Jay Cutler, who i also consider a developing, not all that good, QB. Except Cutler threw for more yards and 1 less TD on a team with nowhere near as much talent.

If anything Rivers is a decent developing QB, but he isn't good, and he certainly hasn't shown anything that separates him from the other run of the mill QB's.

Rivers, Eli Manning, and Cutler are all decent, but none of them are good/great NFL players. Still a step below, rothlisburger, Gerrard etc.

YES, finally it's football day. It's been a long week of waiting. Hardly anyone would pick the Chargers if their entire team was healthy, but now it's almost the opposite. They're all banged up. Go Pats!

Prediction: Patriots win 34-17

A step below Garrard? Who's been in the league how long now and just showed something?

And you don't think Worthlessberger stepped into a great team? Yeah, he didn't have any talent at receiver, did he? MUCH more at WR than Rivers does. Or at RB. Just Willie Parker and The Bus. You know, guys who actually SHOW UP in the post-season.

There are several QB's around the league who you could have replaced Worthlessberger with and the Steelers would have still won the Superbowl. Rivers is one of them.

even cbssportsline.com's pete prisco has acknowledged reality:

"New Englanders, get ready for the Super Bowl."

this is a lot for someone who at times sounds like he's on the colt's payroll.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are the A-team for CBS?

I would've loved to see Gus Johnson up there, best announcer in sports.
