omfg, there are actual consequences for referees?

I can't find any real sources for this info, I'm willing to bet this is not a true story.

yeah the nfl is way too in bed with sports betting to let that get out in the open
I dunno I think they WOULD let it get out if true. The NBA is in bed with sports betting big time and there have been some stories about players and refs in the NBA that were public.

Seems like Stafford wanted to break into the $50M/year club, but couldn't find any takers.
But he almost assuredly was able to squeeze out some extra money (and guarantees) from the Rams.
At least for now, they will postpone a complete tear-it-down rebuild.

Hell of a player to get for a fifth round pick. That's nuts.
NFL trades are weird like this. Basically the Niners are getting rid of the rest of his contract; they even have to eat a $30M dead cap charge this season. Draft capital is incredibly value in the NFL, although I don't know what a 5th rounder is really worth (front offices have studied this stuff to death since the Jimmy Johnson days).

Meanwhile, in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns had to give up a basket of first round picks for Bradley Beal. Amidst a nightmare season, Beal is no longer even starting.

he had one great season and had another that was good with 1100 all purpose yards....

it about tracks as far as the recent wr trades go

Deebo Samuel = 5th
Mike Williams = 5th
DeAndre Hopkins = 5th
Jerry Jeudy = 5th + 6th
Jonathan Mingo + 7th = 4th
Davante Adams = 3rd
Jahan Dotson + 5th = 3rd + 7th + 7th
Stefon Diggs + 5th + 6th = 2nd

No doubt. So many bad contracts in the league right now. It makes these players worthless on the trade market.

5th rounders are usually rotational players at best. Niners gave up Deebo for a 7th o lineman, or linebacker. A special teams guy.

I don't know what an average 5th rounder is worth, but there's still value there. Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant and Tom Brady was also a late round pick. Yes, they are massive outliers but there are gems all over a draft board.

But mainly the Niners just wanted to get out of the contract of a disgruntled player who's had some injury woes. The peak years for non QBs can seem relatively short, esp. for someone who plays a physical style like Deebo. Although he's mainly a WR and paid like one, he has some of the wear and tear of a running back. I don't think his contract numbers are even that bad (compared to the top paid WRs); it's just "what have you done for me lately?"

The 9es recently have done pretty well drafting in the late rounds. We'll take a hit on the cap, and you can't replace Deebo, but if we can get another pick to address our needs, especially if Juan and Pearsall play to their potential this year, we may be alright. We need O & D line to stop the run and protect our soon to be very rich QB. I think with Dan Quinn, Deebo is going to be a fine addition to a potentially scary Commanders team.

Thanks @KMFJD didn't realize he just had a year left on his deal. Deebo probably plans to test the open market next year to get top dollar.

Related, I found this article that aggregated pro-bowl players by draft round. There is a huge drop-off after the first round. Basically, there are three tiers -- the 1st round, then 2-3rd rounds, then 4+.

I sent a couple of autographed cards of Jauan and Ricky to PSA in anticipation of them having kick ass seasons this year.
