It passed memtest 2 passes, I boot the XP setup disk (checked temps, 42c) everything is fine until I hit retunr on install, then it shuts down and has alternating high/low sound (not a beep, but constant)

WTF ???? Help I need to get this going !!

And where is the thing to change the FSB by 1 mhz increment I already RTFM, but either I'm blind, or it isn;t there ! Just 100,133,166, or 200 !

sounds like you're doing a fresh install on a new system? i would guess you hooked something up wrong or perhaps something's loose. as for the increments (i don't know anythign about this mobo), you might have to change the default FSB speed handling bios setting to "manual" rather then default and then it might let you change it in increments and/or type in a specific value, otherwise perhaps it needs a bios update to introduce the functionality?

Always install XP at default speeds first then oc.

The alternating sound usually means memory problems.
Which doesn't really mean that you have memory problems, just that it shows up during installing XP. I've seen this before.

Well, I medded with this thing for hours now, and I can't have it stable no matter what voltages I put on it at more than 169/202 (5:6 divider) ! I have mushkin pc3200 2.5-3-3-8 memory in it ! Have you even seen such a low overclock ?

The Softmenu III should have the option to set the CPU speed to User Define and then you should be able to enter any feasible FSB (and then some!) in the CPU Ext. CLK.

If you're going for the 200MHz bus speed, make sure your memory's not voltage-starved here. 2.7 volts, don't be shy. :p And of course you might need a CPU-voltage bump too. Use the CPU FSB/DRAM ratio item to lock the RAM to a 1:1 ratio with the CPU's FSB.

That sounds like good advice, to install Windows at stock clockspeed.

Yea, I tried memory at 2.7, cpu at +14% (whatever that is the max) and 191 fsb(works on my other 3 2500@3100 about) and bam ! the noise ! (memory and fsb at 1:1, and then something like 175 fsb and 210 memory or something) Anyway either folding makes it do it, or 3dmark03 makes it do it.

CPU 2500+
Case Antec 3700- BQE
Memory Mushkin basic 3200 at 2.5-3-3-8
temps are fine on the falconrock at 42c last I looked.

It just doesn;t want to OC at all !

and one of those other 2500's is on an ECS K7VTA3 (yuck) and works at 191 ! Could the 9600se video card be a problem ? two of the others have a 9700 pro and 9800 pro, and the ECS board has a Matrox G450. I have just never seen anything like this, or I got the worst luck in the world !

And I did install at stock. Got it done with all patches and software (3 hours) then went to OC, and it corrupted windows, so I have to format and start from scratch.

Wow, you want to O/C a non O/C'able rig. Boo f'n hoo, set up the computer to stock and try installing your OS of choice.

EDIT: AND QUIT O/C'ING!!!

hmm I always install at stock settings even if I think my setup is stable and tested with p95. I donnot call me crazy but I don't like corrupt instillations even if I am positive that its stable.

If you really want to o/c i suggest maybe getting a mobile CPU. On the other hand, jus bump the voltage up by incridments of .05 volts until your system is stable. I have the same cpu and mobo and mine runs prime95 stable with stock volatages.
