NF7-S2 - Cannot finish XP install (on 2 identical computers)

I've built 2 identical computers for neice and nephews using the NF7-S2, Sempron 2600+, 512MB. Both computers are exactly the same.

I'm using a couple of drives from abother system of mine, 250GB WD 7200RPM boot, 120GB WD 7200 data. The following problems happen on systems.

1) When I boot with the drives jumpered to Cable Select, after the XP install copies the files to the drive and reboots, I receive the message "error loaing Operation System" after reboot. This happens with both drives on both computers.

2) When I boot with the drvies jumpered to Master, the computer hangs at the main Abit logo screen for 5 minutes or so before it detects the drives. Changing the options in the bios for the drive from Auto to LBA has no effect. This happens with both drives.

3) When I boot with the drives jumpered to Slave, I get to the same point as I do in step 1, except I get some lovely error about c:\windows\system32\hal.dll being corrupt. That's always nice.

I'm think I'll try swaping the RAM out from another of my PC's to see if that works, but beyond that I'm out of ideas.

Installed a stick of Corsair 3200XL 2-2-2 and everything worked fine. The originally installed RAM were 2 sticks of 256MB Viking labeled

PC3200 Compliant
DDR32X64PC3200VD

I won't be buying the 3200XL for these computers, so can anybody let me know which memory they have been successful with on these motherboards? The cheaper the better as I won't be overclocking.
