Looks like the first official Nexus tablet is coming soon.

Some rumored specs:

Made by ASUS (great choice, they've worked hard on the TF series of tabs)

$199 price point

7" (this sucks, IMHO, but maybe it'll work)

Quad core Tegra 3

June release.

For $200 7" is fine. No reason to expect 10" at that price.

After having used my TouchPad for an extended period of time, I think I'd prefer a smaller screen size. Provided the screen is sharp enough that I can read most websites without having to zoom in.

If it is actually $200, I'll probably buy one (used for like $175 lol).

I have no need, but I might get into development, and at that price it isn't too much of a blow to the wallet for something that isn't completely necessary

if those specs are true, this is going right into my car to replace my factory nav.

Curious why they went with 7in and not 8-9 or 10in? Also, what is this going to be a 'Nexus' of? Its a way late for ICS and way early for JB.

Sounds pretty impressive for the price. Considering I already have a Kindle Fire and a PlayBook, I won't be getting one, but it has potential to capture a large following. More so than the last "Nexus" tablet anyway.

But it will probably be 8GB to hit that $199 price point. Google clearly needs something to combat the success of the Kindle Fire, but I fear they risk throwing all other Android tablet OEMs under the bus in the process. If you are competing with the OS vendor with a product at $200, what's the point?

I see some jumping on the Windows 8 tablet train when that rolls around, since Microsoft is highly unlikely to play favorites.

How do you know Microsoft won't play favorites with Nokia or any of it's Windows PC partners?
You think they're just paying them for nothing?

Aw only 7"? I see no point in getting a 7" tab when I already have a nearly 5" phone. It should have been 10" (and I would gladly pay for the increase in price).

Well there's 10" tab already out and it's called Transformer Prime. So what's stopping you from owning one?

7" needs to be 1280x800 min. We do not need another 7" 1024x600 tablet. That was acceptable back in 2010/2011. Not now.

The Prime's 720p resolution is just too low, and the soon to be launched Infinity is too pricey. Also I'm waiting for tablets to take one more evolutionary step (performance, battery life, features, etc.) before I hop on the bandwagon.

Probably the same way car manufacturers can sell 10K cars and 60K cars.

like all the other Nexus products, it will probably be specced to establish a baseline for hardware performance and be a developer platform. it won't be marketed as a competitor against the latest and greatest offerings from the other Android OEMs.

And of course, last I checked, a lot more 10K cars were sold than 60K cars. However, this business is far more cutthroat as margins are a lot thinner.

Isn't it the same one nvidia teased at the Tegra 3 launch?

The story I read went that Google saw the ASUS $250 7 inch Tegra 3 tablet and was so impressed that they asked ASUS to make their Nexus tablet as well. And the article speculated that ASUS would decrease it's internal storage to get the price down to $200.

So if that article's speculation turns out correctly, the Nexus tablet may be based on the $250 Tegra 3 tablet, but with less internal storage.

Since ASUS really doesn't seem to do much to the UI anyway, maybe these two things will end up being the same afterall. *shrug*

Thanks, in my head, I thought they were the same thing already and wondered why it was suddenly news again.

I guess if the original was supposed to have 16GB of storage and they go to 8 that would explain it. Think I'd pa $50 for the extra storage though.
