Wondering if anyone knows if sprint can flash this in store or if I'd have to ship it, or worse...

Sprint will not do it.

Have you posted on XDA? Its very hard to hard brick a phone...usually you have to be doing something you had no business doing. Please post details of what is happening and I can probably find you some help.

I had a root go flaky, got it bootable, then tried to restore factory settings, I flashed the bootloader image out of order and lost ability to communicate by usb to flash any other files.

But, the folks at Best buy were nice enough to replace it for me, when I explained what happened, they pointed out that with the replacement plan I bought I could have run the thing over with a lawnmower and brought the pieces in and they would have replaced it.

I am not screwing around with rooting again though.

I had unlocked it.
Flashed the rootboot
flashed the recovery (clockwork crespo?)
then it would only boot to a menu with mount options and other sys level stuff
I flashed a boot.img that got it back to the os
put the power user app on
then it wouldnt go into the os again, only the sys level menu
flashed the boot.img again after going around in circles for a scary hour or so
got back to the os and decided screw this and tried to restore factory settings
then it wouldnt boot again, got stuck at the "Google" screen with the unlocked icon
went back in and flashed system.img and tried to flash recovery.img from the original rom, that failed.

Thats when I flashed the bootloader.img and removed the ability to communicate via usb to flash any further.

If you follow instructions on XDA to a nano-level detail, you will have zero problems. If you have problems, post on XDA about the problem. You could also get on the IRC channel for your phone, people will definitely be on there to help.

You can kill an android phone from a bad radio update, so it's not hard at all. I know I killed an Evo last week :D

It's possible but hard to do. I rooted my last phone, Samsung Moment, probably 15 different times and sometimes it didn't go but I just reflashed it just fine.

Yeah about the only way I have ever seen to brick one is usually a incompatible radio. These phones are crazy easy to flash back to stock if you do a bad flash outside of radio.
