I think you could call the Droid a major new player. It put Motorola back in the game, and is the first decent smartphone for Verizon, IMO. You are right about Verizon missing out on the iPhone, but they have the pre now, and are suppose to have the nexus one sometime in the spring.
good point, the droid is a major release.
they have the pre now, but they didn't have the debut was my point.
it is telling that verizon just got it's first good smartphone this late in the game perhaps. maybe they are just really good negotiators, to the point where good is good for some margins, but bad for the end consumer - they are riding their network coattails.
i went from sprint while having at&t for my last job, to now t-mobile. sprint was the best, at&t the worst, and t-mobile in the middle. i am an urban dweller - and really, i have service wherever i go that i need it with either of the three with a few misses here or there but nothing too bad. at&t was actually a bit bad, but so far sprint and t-mobile really have good quality for where i live, work & play. most people i know are in the NY metro area for most of their time, as in 90%+. this is where we do everything.
most people dont travel so damn much to need a network everywhere - but having a phone that you use day in day out that is great to use is more rewarding than knowing you can have 3G in east jabib, alabama if you ever chose to go there. i think verizon should re-examine its priorities at this point. perhaps the droid is a signal that they are finally turning a page?
