I'm in the same boat. Got tired of waiting and bought a Moment in January. I might just eat the full price and upgrade this summer when the Supersonic is released. I NEED that phone, haha.
Well luckily I do not NEED a Nexus One and I can wait until next year. I'm still having fun with the Moment and it far exceeds all my needs (it's my first smartphone).
How is the moment I am thinking switching to sprint soon to save some money. I would like a phone with a physical keyboard so the moment caught my eye. Is it stable and have a solid build quality?
Stable: Usually, but occasionally I've had the mobile data stop working despite having supposedly good reception and still having the EV logo in the status bar up top. The only ways I've found to get it back to normal are either turning the phone off and back on or simply waiting. And when this issue does crop up, the phone will crash (hard) when I try to make a phone call. It will also get stuck in Airplane Mode if you turn it on and then try to turn it off. Again, the only method is to turn the phone off and back on. No idea why, but it doesn't happen very often luckily.
Build quality seems good. It's a solid, brick-like phone. I like the physical keyboard, especially for the navigational arrow keys. Sometimes I use Swype, but the physical keyboard is a good backup for certain things, especially numbers, symbols, and other complex things.
Switching to Sprint is definitely a good way to save money, especially if you have more than one line with data. Their only major shortcoming seems to be phone selection, and if they get the Nexus One and/or Supersonic, that will go away.
I'd definitely wait. The Nexus One may not have a physical keyboard, but its other advantages far outweigh that one shortcoming.
It's a solid phone physically, and it's never crashed on me. I've had a few minor issues with apps crashing, but I'm pretty sure those issues can be attributed to the apps themselves (and those were just the apps having problems, the phone has never taken a dump on me).
The only complaint is that the battery life is atrocious, or so the phone would have you believe. From what I've read there's an error with the battery temp sensor or something, not sure exactly. But some days I can use the phone all day and the battery will still be good to go, and then other days it'll seem like I barely use the phone and it'll instantly say it needs to be charged. However, even when it says the phone is about to die, I can continue to use it, and has yet *crosses fingers* to actually go dead because of no more battery. That's why they believe it's just a sensor/software issue.
The Moment is also supposed to get 2.0 or 2.1, can't remember which, in the next couple of months.
I haven't had battery life issues. Do you have the CL14 update? It came out around December/January and fixed issues with the GPS and battery life. You can check by going to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Build Number, which should be CUPCAKE.CL14 if you have the update.
The current rumor, supposedly confirmed by Sprint employees, is that both the Moment and Hero will be getting an update from 1.5 all the way to 2.1 on March 26th. But the only official announcement is that it will come out in "early 2Q 2010." They have at least said that it will be an update to 2.1, not 2.0.
