Every person I know IRL who bought a 5x at launch has ditched it by now.

Ars called the Nexus 9 the worst Nexus but the 5X should be given consideration.

Yeah, I was optimistic about the phone but had the lag issues kick in after a few weeks of use (seemed like it was related to enabling encryption), and then the phone display died. Sold it after LG repaired it under warranty.

Not worth it. Plenty of other $200-$250 phones now like the ASUS ZenFone 2, Huawei Honor 5X, Motorola Moto G, ZTE Axon, Alcatel Idol 3/4 etc that are less troublesome. Speaker quality and vibration motor on the Nexus 5X are poor, and the build quality and battery life are just average at best. That 16GB gets eaten up really quickly, too, even if you are careful and don't install a lot of apps or use up storage with pics/videos. No microSD slot, either. I found 2GB of RAM to be enough initially, but there was some strange RAM consumption at times that I haven't seen on any other device (YMMV). I think Google and/or LG really borked the software on the 5X, though they may have fixed most of the issues via updates by now.

It's one real advantage is that it's a Nexus device, but it's really not a good LG phone (and they do generally make good phones otherwise). I only bought one to use on Fi - I didn't want to pay more for the 6P - but I ditched Fi after the crappy experience on the 5X, and didn't feel like getting a 6P on Fi after realizing I missed unlimited data.
