Nexus 5 or something else?

Hello

I think my Desire Z might have just died. I was waiting for Project Ara to produce something but after they have announced a worthless test run in Puerto Rico I have no choice....

My 1st choice from the start has been the Nexus 5. The ability to choose and every ROM is I think awesome.

I also looked at the Samsung Galaxy K zoom but I have quickly discarded it as I see no ROM development.

So, should I go with the Nexus 5 or do you recommend something else?

Nexus 5 is still a great phone except battery life is marginal. I would get about 4 hours screen on time.

Check out Swappa for good prices on used ones.

If you're into custom ROMs, there's not much out there that beats the Nexus 5. It's still a great phone for the price. As noted, the only drawback is battery life but even that's viable and can last a day (said the guy who owned a Palm Pre, Evo 4g and Galaxy Nexus previously--all phones with much worse battery life).

I picked up a replacement Nexus 5 on Swappa after I broke the screen on my old Nexus 5 and have no regrets. The only other phone I was considering was the Moto X 2014 which would be a sideways move given the price difference.

I owned a Nexus 5 ... liked the phone but the Battery is BAD .. and the speakers are not good.

I switched to a One Plus One.. a much better phone. I like the larger screen size... much better battery (have 65% left at night) and better speakers that are very loud.

Check out ... for the price I am not sure why anyone would choose the Nexus over the One Plus One.

I'd probably try the OnePlus, just because the battery on it is said to be pretty good.

From your post since you are concerned with updates, the Nexus 5 is your best bet. The battery life is just ok. Everyday usage (GPS drive to work/light browsing) is 16 hours, but when I primarily use it as a phone/SMS I can get 3-4 days.

The other bad thing is I feel the phone could be bastardized. Seems like it's larger Nexus 6 brother is getting ALL the attention. Luckily from your OP, Google will always have the latest OS for you for a very long time.

Initially it seems the OPO will also get updates but not as much as the Nexus series.

Dont custom ROMs help with the battery life issue??? Also Lollipop is said to highly improve battery life on the Nexus 5....
