I've upgraded to a Nexus 5. Hurrah.

On my old Android 4.0x phone, the Music app would auto retrieve album cover art for me, and when it failed to, I used an app called 'cover art downloader'.

On my N5, the 'Play Music' app hasn't managed to download any cover art, and that extra app hasn't helped either despite successfully downloading the art (as far as it is concerned). I'll try looking on the Play Store and see whether there's another Music app which is more like what I'm used to, but I assume I was using the Android Music app before and currently.

Any suggestions?

Most if not all music player app should have the ability to automatically retrieve cover arts, at least that's what I think. I believe the most suggested music app for Android is still PowerAmp, so maybe you'd like to try that. It's a paid app with a trial version, but the trial is for 15 days so you have plenty of time to decide.

How many are there of your songs that aren't recognized? If it's just a few you can always download/scan the cover arts and add them manually. I've had to do that for some of my music (mostly international albums). I believe I used MP3Edit app to edit the ID3 tags (including cover arts).

Removing all updates for the Music app did the trick; at least, it seems to be picking up the ones that the cover art downloader app had sorted out.

Power Amp and Player Pro I believe are the big two on Android. I preferred Player Pro a bit more myself.

Though I just use Play Music with the All Access subscription, so I don't have to worry about art not downloading my own MP3 files (that was always a mess for me).
