Next Xbox console to be six times more powerful, headed for fall 2013 release?

Gotta understand where console technology comes from. These design specs were probably finalized about 3 or 4 years ago, meaning the 6670 was better technology than was even available to the market at the time.

Also keep in mind that consoles have to fit into tighter power and thermal profiles than desktop PC's that can devote huge amounts of space to exotic cooling solutions can.

Even if the bolded is true, I would imagine that the higher end 4XXX > 6770

This better be fake, I was hoping the new consoles would finally allow for a big push in graphics again.
But by the time this comes out they'll be 3 gens behind pc... By the end of 2013 they won't even be anywhere near current PC hardware... Seriously?

That's true. And calling it 6xxx is kind of confusing to me.

All of the 6xxx cards of 6770 and below are largely just refreshes of 5xxx cards anyway, afaik. With the 7xxx series already trickling out, it would make sense in my mind to shoot for what would be a midrange card from that series, which should be more than able to deliver 1080p @ 60fps with good AA and great texture/FX detail (as long as they don't gimp the memory).

With ram prices the way they are it'd be awesome if they got 8GB in there, but make it no less than 4GB.

I'd wager if Microsoft hammered out some mass quantity Zalman fan deal or even springed a few extra bucks for some decent paste they would save money over the long haul not repairing consoles burning up from stupidly hot chips.

i would imagine the next xbox has kinect built in, and likely the absolute most killer media software to date. they didnt do a very good job of making the 360 a media device, and i know that is one thing they want to beat sony in.

Based on the current generation x86 CPUs, it seems we've made a lot of headway in regard to the amount of heat produced by chips. The PowerPC-based CPU wasn't that hot compared to other CPUs from its time, but it really just had terribly inadequate cooling. When I fixed my original 360, I was a bit surprised at how small the heatsink was as I've seen larger heatsinks on a motherboard's chipset. The fan was also ridiculously small as it looked like a 40MM fan.

It does make me wonder if Microsoft will go with IBM again and build another PowerPC-based machine. It would probably be the best from a compatibility standpoint, but I'm not sure how powerful the current crop of PowerPC chips are compared to their x86 counterparts.

I think the current rumor is that the next XBOX will feature the upgraded Kinect unit, but I doubt that it will be bundled with all units. There will most likely be a bundle sold with a Kinect (2?) like there is now.

Well, yeah. But that costs money, which is why they are going to go with a low power design in the first place.
