I decided to wait for a 4870 with an upgraded cooler, or perhaps 1gig of VRAM. Any ideas when something like these will be released?

Thanks

EDIT: Better put, when will the non reference versions be released?

Gah... too bad I didn't wait. Mine's idling at 80C... Normally I wouldn't mind at all, however my CPU temp jumped 5C on idle (when the system is doing nothing, to 40C). And the part behind my comp is pretty hot. Not to mention the room temperature that jumped a few degrees. Sure, it dumps the air outside the case, however the card itself is so hot inside that the temp around it goes up dramatically... Mobo sensor says 57C  Plus I think I have good airflow, 3 nexus fans spinning at 700ish RPM and another one on a TRUE (same speed). The system is quiet. Though the card itself, even on idle, spins up and spins down alot and that's pretty noisy.

Think an aftermarket cooler will solve it (will keep the temp lower on the card so the air won't get so hot inside). Any tips for one that dumps the air outside too ?

Btw. here's a pic of my interior. Enough room in there I'd say...

Anyone know what the 1gig model will be priced at? Also, I wonder if the faster VRAM will allow it utilize more of the VRAM.

VRAM usage doesn't have anything to do with its speed. The two are totally unrelated. As far as the price goes on the 1GB model, the only rumor I've heard so far is that it will be around $30 more than the 512MB version.

With all of the "price of GDDR5" Ram comments I'm suprised 30 dollars more buys you twice as much.

yea, i agree... then again, AMD is just plopping 2gb of it per x2 card...

Obviously 30$ is much more expensive then say... 5$, which might be what they are used to paying, allowing them to reap much greater profits when they sell that for 50$ extra... that, or they just make a little less money per 1GB card, but i doubt that. seriously.

OCUK have them for pre-order link ,I'm glad I purchased my Gigabyte 4870 (512mb) for 172 quid,I don't think I would buy 1GB version at £235 here in the UK.
