well i gave my 2.8c system to my sister for college and built a a64 3000+ newcastle w/ asus k8v se deluxe, 1x512 ocz 3200 el platinum, samsung 160gb sata and put it in my cheftec dragon case wit a samsung combo drive, geoforce 2, and older sony 17" flat crt. i do lots of multimedia and would like to get into gaming, but i do not have much interest in OCing. my question is if u where in my position which of these would ur next upgrade be

6800gt

a nice viewsonic or nec 19-21in flat crt

a 9800pro and another 512 of ocz el

or possibly gettin a used 4200ti off ebay and getting the viewsonic/nec, and then holding off on the 6800gt till the price falls

also do u think it would be a good time to pick up a nec 2500/2510, or wait untill 16x and better dl burners are out.

hum...this is a hard question...well, i'm assuming you're a strong gamer, so you'll really need the gfx card when hl2 and doom3 comes out, but...a nice new and big monitor is tempting. also, 512mb of ram is very tempting along with the 9800 pro. i guess i would stick with the video card and then get ram once i have money. then upgrade to a new monitor later on since you're current one should be playable. i hope this helps.

yea that is kinda what i was thinking cus i have one of the nicer sonys and i think i would regret not getting one of the next gen cards when the new games start coming out plus i already have 512megs so gaming should be bareable. i plan do plan on eventually gettin the new moniter, vid card, ram, and dvd burner but i dont have the money to drop on it all at once so i want to plan it out so that i get the most for my money

That really depends on how soon you're going to get into gaming. I would get a nice monitor before anything, really. Of course, for the price of a 21" NEC you could get a 19" ViewSonic and a 9600 Pro and 512MB OCZ and still have $200 left. It's hard to suggest much when you haven't nailed down an actual budget.

i am lookin to spend 400ish on a moniter so ill probibly end up with a 19 and was looking at a nec diamondtron in particular since ive heard they are up to par for gaming but am open to suggestions.
if i were to do that i might just get a used 4200ti for cheap and wait for a good deal on a 6800gt (for around the $300 barrier) in a couple months. does that sound like a solid plan?

Sounds good to me.

I'd get the 6800GT later. NEVER buy when it is out imo. Get it later unless your JUST HAVE TO HAVE IT.

You're not going to need to spend $400 on a 19" Diamondtron. The FE991 is $280 delivered. It can do 1600x1200 at 76Hz, so it's very doubtful you'll want a more expensive model. That'd leave you with enough for a R9600 Pro.

I love my Ti 4200, but I wouldn't buy a used one unless it was a max of $40 delivered. They go on eBay for 50+ by the time you consider shipping, which is pretty questionable when you can get a 128-bit R9200 for $53 delivered. Maybe it's a tiny bit slower, but it's new, it's a DX8 card, it has DVI out, and it's passive, so you'll actually have a use for it a year from now.
