I recently clocked down to 700Mhz from my 1Ghz since all my other components aren't up to snuff and the extra 300Mhz just wasn't being used. But i just downloaded Rc5 and am wondering about the advisability of bring my CPU to it's height again.

I have this program on my webspace that gives you a pretty good idea of whether or not your system is stable. It tests all the major parts of system, very thoroughly, and can be left running for days to get a very accurate yes/no answer.
Stability test program

Its fairly simple, just unpack it to a temporary directory and run the test program, its fairly eas to use and figure out. Basically, when you stop testing, if the system reports XX amount of tests and 0 errors your ok - but you should let it run for a few hours at least. Be warned, if your cooling isn't up to scratch, you will know now.

If you want, you could run the RC5 client in the background while performing the test, but it wont make much difference as it will get no CPU time (the test is 100% CPU intensive), so shouldn't have much of an effect on the result.
 
I've been running my CPU at 1Ghz for a week now and it's been perfectly stable although it required 1.75V to run.

Yes, i've already run your program. I clocked back down to 700Mhz because my video card wasn't fast enough to make the most of it. I just ran Quake 3 Arena and 3Dmark2000. The scores were almost the same as at 1Ghz. My video card is the bottleneck.
 
If it was perfectly stable at a gig, leave it there. Yes your video card is a major bottle neck in your system. fortunately, RC5 doesn't use your video card 🙂 If it is stable, crank it up! 🙂

In the client configuration, goto the Buffer update options.
There are 2 settings at the very bottom called, Set work threshold and Set time threshold (I think - something like this). Set a number for either the amount of work units (not packets), or a specific amount of work for a set amount of time (in hours).
 
jinsonxu: I also have an Athlon 700 on a K7V.
It seems you must be using a GFD? Which GFD and which HSF are you using to OC your processor to 1.0 GHZ? I currently have my 700 running with a FSB of 107 which gives me an effective processor speed of 750MHZ.

he has a Duron 700 on an A7V, hence no GFD. He has to use the golden bridges on the top of the chip, the easiest way I have heard of doing that is to use conducting ink.
 
I've fixed it. It's the third time I've fixed it in the last 8 hours. Everytime they make a change to the Forum software my link breaks. LOL!
