next time you fly...

Just comes to show if someone is really determined it's probably very hard to stop them.

I'm sure there is something you can mix with wine to create a toxic gas, or explosion. Just need to bring that with you, and ask for wine. Or something that can create an explosion when mixed with the stuff they use in the lavatory. Flush it down the toilet. I'm sure a chemist would know how to do something like that, or I suppose with enough google searching, though that's probably not something you want to be searching for then go on a plane. Probably get detained at the airport.

None of that crap is going to allow him to seize a commercial aircraft. The melee-oriented stuff is a non-starter because the minute you pull that crap the entire passenger cabin is going to beat the shit out of you. The rest of the weapons might hurt a few folks, but they aren't going to prevent him getting his head stomped in.

9/11 was executed with nothing but a few box cutters. You would think everyone in the cabin would have jumped them but they did not.

Though, the issue with the stuff shown is it looks quite flimsy and would probably break.

I remember when flying was actually somewhat enjoyable. I still remember my last half-full flight back in 1993!

So this guy is a flier's best friend?

That's because the people on those planes didn't think they would die. Now that we all know pretty much what the plan is, people are going to fight back, just like the people on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania.

so am i going to be visited by FBI or DHL for viewing this?

i think the blunderbussiness class is going to cause more harm to the shooter than a target, lol

crossbow is lolworthy...not gonna take someone out.

most of this shit isn't going to do shit... the most impressive one is the cup grenade

Yeah, basically what Sixone said. Nobody had ever done that before, and the passengers and crew couldn't conceive of what the terrorists had in mind until the very last moments, and when they were in full and complete control of the planes. I think that was a one-time thing. Even if you manage to get weapons aboard I don't think that can be pulled off again.

Yeah. I looked at the 'crossbow' and the spear fired by condoms. They're not going to kill a target unless a lucky shot hits in an eyeball. Have fun reloading while half the cabin goes batshit crazy on your ass.

The 'remote' suitcase thing is stupid - you've already checked your luggage. So you're going to set fire to your luggage in an overhead bin. Even the 'fraggawhatever' wasn't big enough to blow up the overhead bin door.

Really nowadays the 'best' way of taking down an airplane is probably with some form of ingested explosive. The locked cockpit door and passenger awareness really make anything else worthless.

The only other option would be to go down the jetway early and take the jet yourself. If you were smart and stayed over residential housing they couldn't take you down, and if you timed it right you could fly it into a football game or something similar. That's pretty darned far-fetched though.

A small personal aircraft packed with explosives is far more likely.

If you go into the bathroom, could you take your laptop with you? (Wouldn't want someone to mess with it while you were away from your seat) (And, I don't know the answer to this question, because I don't fly.)

Anyway, a terrorist could: custom built laptop case, using magnesium instead of aluminum or other metal. In bathroom, use lithium battery to start combustion of the magnesium case. Burns quite hot, water makes it worse. (Any water in the bathroom?) Heck, inside a laptop, couldn't components be built to contain thermite? I doubt it's something a bomb detection dog could be trained to smell, since it's simply aluminum and rust mixed together - I'd think that any odor was indistinguishable from background. I know that in some jets, one of the fuel tanks is below the passengers. Any configurations where there's fuel directly below a bathroom?

I've thought for years that allowing large lithium batteries & unknown metals on planes is much more dangerous than a small bottle of shampoo. But, it's all theater anyway.

It is not about if it will work, it is about the fact that I can easily make or buy things after the security checkpoint much more dangerous then the things that the TSA bans at the security checkpoint.
No one is going to take over a plane with a folding pocket knife but we still ban them from flights.

This is exactly the reason why the American "War on Terror" is a stupid waste of money. Anyone who REALLY TRULY wanted to bomb a plane and had a bit of intelligence and forethought could actually do it, even with all the security measures in place. All it's done is greatly inconvenience proper, paying customers who have no intention of blowing anything up.

"They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

As true now as it was 250 years ago.

Ya, none of the people thought they're gonna get flown into the build. You honestly think anyone can take over a commercial flight with a box cutter now?

box cutters lol. 🙄

Isin't that what they had? Or was it something else? I'm pretty sure I recall it being box cutters. That could do half decent damage mind you, but it aint no machine gun.

Interesting never thought of it that way. Guess it could also be the terrorists yelled at them to keep quiet and that their plan does not involve crashing the plane but just taking it somewhere else and that they were going to live.

I kinda do. It's less likely now but with the right mix of passengers I can picture people being paralyzed by fear and doing nothing. :|

Pretty much. All they have to do differently is have a fake detonator and say that if anyone tries anything the plane goes boom. No one actually trusts the TSA to prevent a bomb from getting on a plane.

The whole security thing is just so surface value. Let's strip search the 70 year old couple....right... (and I've seen it happen multiple times).

The 3 ounces of liquid? Joke. Etc etc. All it did was create a bunch of jobs that no one really wants and those that have it hate it and people hate them and make people hate flying.

Yeah that could do serious damage. Even if you don't hit a gas tank you'd essentially carve a hole going right outside and explosive decompression would take over. Though I think modern planes can handle this pretty well and you might just terrorize everybody's hair style.

Though if you also manage to hit the control cables and other vital parts...

How far down that road do you want go, really? The point absolutely is whether it will work. If it's not likely to work again then a lot of this is just fear mongering around the inevitable conclusion that, yes, there is still some shit around that can be used to hurt people.

You can probably get through with a 6-8" piece of threaded pipe, some ends, a box of matches and a cotton fuse.

An 8" pipe bomb would seriously create a potential crash and large loss of life.

The thing is as the site says, most of the 'terrorists' out there already know this shit.

A 2L soda bottle, some aluminum foil and a little pool acid is a decent bomb too.

pre-9/11, the presumption was probably that the terrorist was going to hold the plane hostage to force Israel to release some prisoners or other from a prison.

now, I think passengers would immediately jump to the worst case scenario in their minds instead.

Even now people watch others get beaten in a street or worse and do nothing.
