so it comes down to it...
670 2gb= $400 (1344 CUDA, 2GB)
680 4gb= $600 (1536 CUDA, 4GB)
660ti 2gb sli = $600 (2688 CUDA, 4GB)

high Res is 2560x1440 + 1080i is standard res.

And id say 1 overclocked 670 will handle BF3 fine at 1080p on ultra.

I just exited BF3 on ultra and 4x msaa 2560x1440 res with my 2 overclocked gtx 680s get like mem use at its highest 1800mb and gpu use at its highest 70%

Buy a used Gtx 670/680 that has a proven overclock.. i think there is a MSI lighting over on Hardforums for 500$ confirmed to do 1430mhz.

When cards carry warranty by serial number there really is no use in buying new if you can find one used for less money that is proved to overclock high.

It divides work between the GPUs, but the performance increase isn't 100%, it's about 80-90% at best.

lol, did you break your keyboard? it seems you have been misspelling words left and right today.

4gb is basically useless on a single 670 as it cant play at settings that would use more than 2gb. maybe with some crazy insane texture mod but that is about it.

Typing on phone.

There are titles that wont let you select certain settings like high amounts of MSAA with maxed settings even if it would be playable. Max Payne 3 comes to mind even though I think their MSAA is broken.

If you run enough mods in skyrim with 4k textures and high levels of AA you will be close to the limit on 2GB I think.

recycledsole, is your 2500k overclocked? I have 2 EVGA GTX670 FTWs in SLI in my rig below with a 2500k at 4.5GHz and it screams. BTW cmdrdredd, how is that 27" Catleap with twin 670s?

no, i didnt overclock anything i didnt want to stress the system and reduce the life of my hardware..

Why you have a 3 year warranty if it fails in that period just rma it and get another..

No risk in overclocking at all.. However there is a risk in Bios flashing.. cause if it fails with that bios on it and they prove it your out of luck.

hmm, do you reccomend a basic guide to overclock the i52500k?

Not much to overclocking sb/ib..

Increase the multi and core voltage and try to keep the ram around it's stock speed.

Turn off turbo boost etc..

Very easy to do.

A google search will bring everything up also there is a Youtube video of it.

I think in 6 months we will have AMD 8950 and 8970. The 7970 and the 7950 were launched Jan 9, 2012 and Jan 31, 2012, respectively. The 6970 and the 6950 were launched Dec 15, 2010.

I wish AMD would get rid of the HD moniker, and got back with the.....

XTX = Dual GPU
XT = Ghz Edition
Pro = HD 7950
XL = HD 7870

Or something along those lines.
These names were so much better.

Your i5 wasn't bottlenecking either card.

Fact is this gen is pretty lackluster if you already had a top end 40nm chip, which you did.

Just wait for the next cycle.

Oh no, not more arbitrary X's please. Those names were so confusing, it's enough to rank them with the numbering scheme.

Nvidia said we will see new cards (GK110) early next year, or if AMD realeases HD8000 sooner, we may see limited quantity befere the end of the year. These should be around 50% faster than curent gen (no hard info).
I would say that in your case it's worth waiting for. But they won't be cheap... >$500.

Actually overclocking SB/IB is directly changing your turbo boost frequency max on the cores. Most people leave C1E and speed step on so your chip will clock down when at idle and low usage but speed up to your max under load.

I'm hoping the next round of GPUs give performance on par with SLI GTX 670s or Xfire 7950s on a single GPU. Now that more and more people are running large monitors with 2560x1440 or greater resolutions or multiple monitor setups for surround or eyefinity, we need the power.
