I am not convinced it will get updated again. If they do, I have a feeling it will be based on whatever the cheapest available iPhone is at the time it comes out. So right now, that would mean a screen size of 4"....the same size as the current model.

I can see it getting Touch ID and a processor bump, but that's it. The market is very mature and there's no reason to put money into new projects as long as they can still "get the parts for it."

1 final release of an uber Touch would be sweet. I bought a 1st gen a few weeks after they came out. I wanted an iPhone but didn't need one. The Touch was perfect to me. A last version with a larger screen, better camera, TouchID & a 128gb version would be perfection. I just ordered an iPhone 6 Plus yesterday, but I would still buy a Touch like that.

Apple's really holding tight on to those A5 devices, even though they don't play nice with iOS 8. Unusual for them. The Touch used to get updated every time a new iPhone came out. Usually with the same internals, but with a crappier camera. The current one has only been out two years but it's now three full hardware generations behind.

If they update it early 2015, I can see it having the same guts as the iPhone 5S. Probably the same form factor with the 4'' display. If it comes out late 2015, it might have the same internals as the iPhone 6, though likely also in the smaller form factor. My money would be on the 5S based model though.

I do have a feeling that Apple may be wanting to phase out the stand-alone iPod line. Both the Nano and the Touch haven't been updated for two years. Shuffle hasn't seen any attention in four, and the Classic was just discontinued. Apple TV hasn't gotten an update in awhile either, though Apple has never really taken it seriously. I'm not sure how well the Touch still sells, but since the smartphone market is becoming so saturated, I can see demand for these devices weakening.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 128GB touch... Since it would be for the car I don't care how big the display is.

The 4th gen sold incredibly well. Apple really needs the right price+specs to repeat that success. A5 was 1 year old when the 5th gen was released with A5. The 512MB RAM just isn't enough.

A 1GB (RAM) A6 iPod touch would have kicked ass. The size and aesthetics of the 5th gen are absolutely perfect.

Hopefully Apple will come out with another high capacity iPod. We have two Classic 160s and if there is no Apple replacement we'll have to jump away from Apple when they die. Seems a 240 - 500 GB SSD wouldn't be unreasonable. All the non-music add-ons like cameras and video hold no interest for me. I'd rather Apple spent the money on quality audio circuits.
