Lots of big PC games coming out soon.

Doom III; GTA4 PC; Fallout 3; Left4Dead; NWN:Storm of Zehir; WoW:Wotlk;Darkfall (if you're into that sort of thing 😉)

I dont understand people listing Fallout 3. You really think in a few years your going to be playing Fallout 3? You may play through it a second time a few years down the road but its not going to take many hundreds of hours of your time over several years.

My vote = Diablo 3

I would have to say Gears of War 2.

Gears is 2 years old and still constantly in the top 5 or so games played on Xbox Live.

Lol. Gears is a console game which means you can't have custom content -- no custom maps or mods and it isn't even an FPS. (Unlike, say, the original Unreal Tournament (1999) which people still play to this day.)

The games that hold people's attention over time are online multiplayer games where people care enough to produce custom content. I've been waiting for the next UT99 or even UT 2004 but after the egg that Epic laid with the consolized UT3, I don't think we're ever going to see one. But still, hopefully something as good will be produced one day.

Yep, a game needs to be multiplayer at least to fit the type we're describing.

I've replayed the first 2 Fallout games countless times and countless hours have been spent killing rad scorpions, super mutants, and crazy robots. It never gets old because the situations are never the same. If Bethesda can do that PLUS offer the ability to mod in new content then I will be playing it for a long time. I'm really going to miss shooting/power fist people in the groin and eyes until it's modded in.

I know people that have played Oblivion on Xbox 360 for hundreds of hours with one character. That's with no mods to add new content and without Shivering Isles.

Oblivion came out a few years ago and I still play it from time to time to see all the mods since the actual campaign is really boring. A few of them put in all new areas, characters and voices so it's like a mini expansion.

I am still playing Diablo2 since it first came out...i like the the fact that you have random drops wherever you are...makes me want to keep trying to get something better...also the 3 different difficulty levels are very different and add alot more items to the game

i just hope with diablo 3 they add many more monsters instead of the same ones over and over just in different skins and names

The reason I initially asked was that I'm looking at making a website, but I want it to be for a game that has staying power. I just recently made one for Disgaea 3 (which turned out really well if I do say so myself), but that game isn't exactly going to be played in a year and a half from now.

in that case MMO might be the best way to go...if not why not pick a franchise instead of 1 game?

Like Half-life, NWN, any of the 3 blizzard games, C&C, etc. because those games will continue to make more games after and thus continuing the use of your website

I'm trying to fill a niche if I can.

MMO's generally have huge, corporate sites that data farm etc. And all of the Blizzard games have dedicated cult following sites. I'd like to be able to provide people with something they can't get elsewhere, or something that is done poorly so far that I could do better.

Huxley has the potential to be a long running game, IMO. If it's good, I could see people playing an MMOFPS for a long time.

Of course D3 and SC2. I also think L4D has the potential to be popular for a long time, but it might have more of a cult following than a huge fan base.

Far Cry 2. Due to the easy to use and powerful map editor that comes with the game on every platform, I believe there will not be hundreds, but thousands of maps available for it within the next year or two. Should keep the game popular for quite some time.

Fallout 3

I predict that Fallout 3 will be a heavily consolized game and just a mere shadow of Fallout 1 & 2.

That's the impression I got from the G4 showcase I saw lastnight. My excitement level went from 9 to 2.

Actually I got pretty mad and decided to watch some COPS instead, I thought it looked absolutely terrible.

Fallout 3, C&C Red Alert 3

Left 4 Dead probably isn't going to garner a large following. I still reallllly want it, but it hasn't been getting that much attention in my opinion.

Considering CNC3 online died within 3 months RA3 will be the same, plus a lot of people are excited about L4D.

SC2/D3 will be the next big games, L4D has potential to be one of the next big games though, depends how fun it is i guess.

divine divinity was a good rpg but they kinda messed a few things up with it...so the 2nd one is coming out in '09 and looks really cool
