Original post here.

New info here.

That could explain the large cooling scoops behind the doors to cool the mid-engined car

Well, now that I look at both sets of pics, the cars are not identical. Look at the rear of each car and you can see that the original pics I posted show the rear end to be more muscular and have a larger rear apron and spoiler and it also has the rear vents in the sides of the rear bumpers. The rear "hips" of the so-called Boxster coupe look rather "tame" as well. The original pics also show the 997 as having full rear quarter windows.

I dunno...it's very confusing ;)

it just doesn't look like it.. rear is way like a carrera.. the boxster is designed after the old spyder.. including the rear.. and that car doesnt look like it on both ends :)

If that's the new Boxster all I can say is wow. I've always liked the 911 (turbo) styling over the Boxster's.
If those are the Boxster I wonder what the 911 will actually look like.

You can also see how abreviated the rear bumper area of the Boxster coupe is. 911's rear ends are quite longer than the Boxster's.

I'm talking about the difference between the current Boxster & that prototype, whatever it is I don't think it's going to be a Boxster.

Well, there has ALWAYS been talk of a Boxster coupe. Ever since the original came out. Looking at the overal shape of the car + it's rear 3/4 leads me to think Boxster. Look at the rear 1/4 windows of the 997 prototype, then look at the rear "false" 1/4 windows of the Boxster Coupe prototype. You can see that the "false" windows on the Boxster are a bit smaller and the roofline angles back faster than the 997.

Remember, the 997 is just a reskin of the 996 so the overall roofline and body shape will be the same. The changed roofline and tighter proportions of this "Boxster Coupe" lead me to believe this is the real deal.

911 Carrera 4 has the same body shape as a regular Carrera. Nothing is changed except for the drivertrain. Also, the 911 Carrera/Carrera 4/Turbo all share the same roofline. The only 911's that have a different roofline/greenhouse are the Cabriolet and the Targa.

This car definitely has different shape to it.

The article clearly says that if it is indeed the new Boxster coupe, then it is wearing a heavy camo outfit for road testing so that i just blends in with other 911-based models.

I'm confused about the different pics as well. The original ones that NFS4 posted don't have the blacked-out rear windows and feature a much more aggressive rear spoiler. Headlights are better defined as well. Methinks the 'originals' NFS4 posted had been photochopped...or I'm wrong and they're 997 and 987 respectively...

Nah, those are just heavily camo'd :(

The thing that really gives the 987 pics away as being a Boxster is the rear overhang. The 911's is much longer to accomodate the rear engine. The Boxster doesn't need to make such an accomodation

The looks more like the 997 spy shots... i dont think Porsche would like to deviate away from the Spyder shape... heh... i dunno but i like the side intakes. :D

I see what you're talking about... I wonder if you can see the engine through the back window :) There are definately some styling cues that hint at this being a heavily camo'd. The roofline is far more abrupt due to the shorter area they had to work with, almost looking like a 350z. The front bumper looks like it was just slapped on there. The rear hips currently don't fit any of the lines on the car, they simply don't work with it. They curve is much too abrupt.

Thats just me though. I hope they take their time with this one :)

I just hope they ditch the huge side scoop. It looks nasty

Wonder if this would be less or more money than a regular convert Boxster?? either way I like it alot and if the performance is there then it might be a consideration for my next car (Well once they are used that is)

Look closely, there doesn't appear to be a huge side scoop....the whole rear quarter panel is an addon.....you can see if from both the front and rear pics. I would hope they would blend in the side scoop better in production models....but the wide hip idea is good, very 911 turbo like.

I like the idea that a 6 speed Auto will be offered, makes this car much better for owners that live in the city. Though, assuming its 45k+ in pricing, for a fairly slow car....I'd get an automatic corvette. American displacement makes up for their crappy interiors.

man... they better change up the 911 a lot if the boxter coupe looks like that... the guys with 911s were mad that just the front of their car was the same...

Haha, but the Boxster was first with that front-end back in '97. So they should have been mad at themselves for buying a 996 instead of sticking with the older (and better looking IMHO) 993 models.
