GM is far less truck dependent than Ford or Chrysler. And their bigger trucks tend to be reasonably fuel efficient compared to the competition.

GM's diesel trucks get the best mpg, my dad's 04 2500HD Diesel gets roughly 12/20 city/hw. Thats including hauling 1 ton on cargo, and pulling a 5 ton trailer over 1/5 of its tank. Getting 12mph in the city very surprising after doing all that work

Uggh.. You're a numbnuts. They have hybrid buses, hybrid trucks, and more on the way.
The people in the media are dipsh|ts. The Japs are tripping over themselves to put out new, huge gas guzzling trucks (like Nissan has in the past 2 years), but the big story to them is a comparatively small number of hybrid cars being sold by Toyota.
And despite "record high gas prices", light truck sales keep climbing. Everyone is increasing their truck sales by huge numbers.
That's what people want to buy.
But the media spent most of the 1990's talking about how the "light truck craze will soon die", but it hasn't, and that's an issue they don't want to touch.
Plus, if they start pointing out to you the real story of how Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are staking their future on big huge trucks, that won't give them a stick to beat GM with, which is their favorite whipping boy.

Oh PLEASE. Stop with the Greenie CRAP. While GM IS in financial trouble, the fact they have not come to market w/a hybrid has nothing to do with it.
Hybrids most probably are the way of the future, but for now, the technology just isn't there to make them powerful AND efficient.
Fact of the matter is that the world needs trucks; moving a 3-ton+ vehicle with any gusto, while allowing it to tow another 2-5 tons just can't be done ATM w/anything but a petroleum burning vehicle, be it diesel or gasoline powered.

It's GM's best selling platform. They sell, what, a million plus GMT 800 vehicles a year? That might be as many vehicles as Honda's or Nissan's entire lineup put together. Of course improving the quality of their trucks (which are outdated and have to be incentivized) will be integral to any turn around plan.
