Well... I was thinking of preordering even though I know I'd miss all my jailbreak stuff like crazy. I have a 3G that's starting to show its age as far as battery life is concerned. It's still ticking though so I'm not totally screwed yet. Not even sure there's an AT&T store around here anyway.

Don't worry dude. The new phone will be jailbroken within DAYS of the release. You can quote me on that

My guess is that it will be worth a lot more initially because of the apparently low supply compared to demand. By the time it gets jailbroken, supply would have caught up and it won't fetch as much. Plus, who knows if it'll get unlocked in a timely manner either. AFAIK the latest baseband on the current iphones STILL hasn't been unlocked, and hasn't been for a while.

Long story short: sell ASAP

You are misinterpreting this. Yes the latest baseband has been hacked, the dev-team just didn't release it. Why release the new baseband hack 2 months before the new phone comes out giving Apple the leg up?

Instead, you don't tell anybody that its hacked and hope when Apple releases the new phone the baseband is similar enough that the dev-team can get it hacked using the techniques they learned on the latest baseband which Apple thinks we still haven't figured out.

I can promise you, I don't know the dev-team personally, but I know devs in the scene and they've had their ear to the ground. This is the scenerio they've told me has been played out in the last 2 months. The dev-team isn't saying anything about anything, and rightfully so - they don't want their hard work to be in vain.

Now, we still don't know how much the baseband will be changed on the new phone. But the few I've talked to seem to think Apple will not change the BB on the new phone that much because they think they are that one step ahead right now. But, then again Apple knows this is a cat and mouse game - they might step it up yet again and the dev-teams efforts will have been in vain.

However, 3Gs owners with the latest baseband will be able to unlock within a few days of the new iPhone release, for sure. Quote me on that. And as I said above, the Jailbreak will also be in affect for the iPhone 4 most likely very soon after release. They have already jailbroken iOS4 for sure - and it might need a few tweaks for the new phone - but it will be a matter of days. Again, quote me on it and call me out if I'm wrong on either of these 2 things. I can't say for sure on the the unlock for the new iPhone4 but most in the scene have a feeling it will be a matter of days as well.

so for those that missed out on pre orders we can stand in line on the 24th, correct?

I went to the Apple store today to clear up a couple things.

I got on the pre-order list thru the Apple Store App on the iphone. I went to the Apple store where I pre-ordered it and she looked me up and confirmed that I am on the list and that I will get an iphone if I wait in line on that day.

I got to take a glance at the list, and for this single store it was HUGE. There was easily 1,000+ names I saw on the list. She said that people on the list will have priority to get the iphone that day. I don't believe that you can just wait in line and get an iphone at the apple store if you are not on the pre-order list.

Fair enough. Even if it gets jailbroken, the new OS is probably different enough that all of the jailbroken apps I use will have to be properly updated. Who knows if Apple will keep some files in the same place... so Winterboard themes might need updating. I'm sure it all won't take long, but it'll take long enough and I'm so dependent on my jailbroken phone that I won't bother until the stuff I use works with OS4 100%. And even then, I might not be able to find the phone in stock.

How are you guys going to do that? Assuming you preordered a subsidized one, you'll pay full price for the one at the store AND sign a new-new 2 year contract.

They preordered it, but it's still fully cancellable until they ship it which may not be till July 14th. They can try their best at a store and if they get one they can cancel the preorder before it ships.

lol I have been to that Apple store before haha.

I really hope this guy didn't take a week off from work to do this lol.

People never cease to amaze me...

Guess that guy must have a really relaxed job to be able to do that.

With the pre orders in the Apple stores, BB, etc, I have a feeling Apple will pre-sell a million of the next gen iPhones before they ship

Thats true but iOS4 has been gold since the day the iPhone was announced (6/7) and has been available to devs for weeks throught beta's. I know some apps already compatible with iOS4 are getting released soon or have been already so we will have to see.
