I'm running a 3000+ at the moment, I'd like to make the move to 2ghz+ but I'm not too interested in spending huge amounts of time working out a nice stable overclock. I don't really do that much gaming, infact, I've not played FEAR more than twice since I bought it on launch.

I'm not really sure what I want to be looking at cpu upgrade wise, so some pointers'd be great.

What else do you do on your computer? If you don't do a lot of gaming, and you don't do a lot of other CPU-intensive work like video encoding, what you've already got is quite sufficient IMO.

Not much of a point upgrading to a faster single core; best thing would be dual core, but only if you will actually make any use of it. Also, O/Cing isn't that hard provided your mobo is capable and your chip isn't a sucker, but that one should be able to get over 2 ghz easily if the mobo can.

You'd like to make the move to 2+ Ghz? Why not overclock the 3000+ to ~2.6 Ghz. Would probably take 2 hours total to reach a steady and stable point, much more cost effective than 200$ on a new CPU. 3000+s won't resell for anything these days.
