Hi Everyone,

Can someone please tell me what the next 2 steps up are from the GTX 460 v2 in both the Nvidia & Amd.

I'm looking at putting in a card in another machine & trying to determine if I should get something faster for mine & move the 460 (my current) to that machine.

I was looking at a GTX 660, but I'm thinking there is a "in between" card.

Thanks

For the current generation, the 650 Ti would be the "in between" card you're looking for. It's as fast as or a little faster than the GTX 560 in most games. Next would be the GTX 660.

For AMD you'd need the 7850 for it to be an upgrade. The 7770, the next card down, is generally slightly slower than the 460, but they're very close. You'd basically be getting the same performance. A 6870 would be an upgrade, but it isn't a huge one.

I'd get a 7850 and OC it, or a 660 if you lean nVidia or don't OC cards. Anything else isn't really much of an upgrade and probably isn't worth the money.

Looks like Newegg has a 660 for $268 AR, but I'm not sure If I want to spend that much, which is why I wanted to know what the next 2 step ups were.

Are you confusing the 660 Ti and the 660? They're two different cards. Newegg has a GTX 660 for $210 AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125443

I was confusing them. This is the card I was looking at, but I would need to see if my case can handle it (The 460 I have is 1.25" shorter)

I'd suggest you take a look at this HD7870 for $195AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202010

I just picked it up to replace a GTX460-768. Very significant jump in performance. It's also faster than a 7850 or 660 at stock but is in the same price range. And it's only about 1/2 inch longer than the 460. Every other 7870 is 9.5" or larger, as are most 660 and 660Ti models.

Looks like the price is back to $225 AR, but TY for giving me another option to look at.

You can also get a MSI Twin Frozr 7850 for only $180 AR. They overclock really well, easily into the stock clocks of the next tier of card. This particular card is possibly shorter than your original one at only 200mm (about 7.75").

Here is a good option. the PCS+ Myst HD 7870 Tahiti LE. price USD 260 (240 after mail in rebate). comes with the NEVER SETTLE game bundle. Farcry 3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs. excellent value for your money.

newegg has the same card for the same price. but only Farcry 3 free.

The Tahiti LE chip has 1536 shaders at 975 Mhz boost. 256 bit memory at 1.5 Ghz (192 Gb/s). matches GTX 660 Ti at stock. can be overclocked to match a HD 7950 boost

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/28.html

1920 x 1200

HD 6850 - 53
GTX 560 Ti - 68
Club3d HD 7870 Tahiti LE - 100
GTX 660 Ti - 101

the GTX 460 matches HD 6850 performance. So you are looking at a 2x perf increase. Even if you compared with a 950 Mhz GTX 460 which would match stock GTX 560 Ti performance its a 1.5x perf improvement. make sure your case can fit the card. its 10.5 inches long.

I was at the store today & saw they had a few 7850's for $140 AR (I think). Not sure if they were as good as the couple of links, so I will probably check it out again later this morning. I do like the idea of the 7850, not only would it probably save me $100, but also looks like there should be no problems fitting in my case

Yeah, sorry, price went back up today.

Jump on that MSI HD7850 above - it's actually $170AR/Code right now!
