While the whole genre is just too time-consuming to really get into anymore, I would put money down for an Alpha Centauri 2. I played the ever loving crap out of AC when it was released and it really laid the foundations for so much of what the 4x genre and Civilization the series has become.

Plantary council launching a solar shade to induce an ice age to lower the ocean level and make more land arable or global warming causing sea levels to rise we're both things back then. Have current Civs ignored map modification?
