Next car?

I don't know why I'm thinking about it NOW, but I am... I have another year before I really have to think about it, but I am getting ideas in my head 🙂

The RX-8 I have now, will be off lease next year, and I would want to get rid of the Mazda3 I own as well and have just a single car. The question is... what car?

I was thinking of getting something a bit more luxurious, and getting a BMW M3 (used, probably 2002 or 2003). The new Miata is pretty appealing too, but it's only a two seater and I doubt I'd use the ragtop much. Just weird ole me lol.

Anyhoo... just throw out some ideas for me guys -- the RX-8's gas mileage is horrible and I'd like a car that can fit 4, but not necessarily a 4 door (matter of fact, I'd rather get a coupe).

Thanks for any ideas!

Also, the idea of the 'boy racer' cars like the Neon SRT, Mitsu Evo, Subaru STi, etc... don't mention them. The idea of comfort and luxury play something of a higher part now that I'm getting older, and more boring. My budget is let's say, $45,000. I may be able to go higher, but I'd rather avoid it 🙂

No front wheel drive either. Yuck.

It's supposed to be a FUN car! I'd prefer RWD with good power, because that's lots of fun 🙂 And my budget is pretty high, you guys are here recommending $25k cars, and I want to spend more than that, because I know it generally costs more to get into the 'nice' stuff. Subaru Legacy is nice and all, but it's not fun (I drove it 🙁 )

Anyways, keep em comin!

Get a MT G35 coupe and slap a twin-turbo/supercharger on it. You'll probably still be under budget but you'll have a very hot car. 😀

Edit: Also seats 4 and I'm currently getting 23MPG in my AT G35c

secret to good mileage is to drive like a granny. After i started self-limiting myself to 2k rpm (unless i'm going over 60 when i'm over 2k in my top gear) I saw a 3 mpg increase.

sorry, i have nothing to add to this thread, i can't afford a 45k car. But I think you should look into rwd/awd cars that can provide more stability when traction starts to go.

Are you on crack?

😕

compared to an RX-8 i'm pretty sure its not fun to drive

Everyone is still on crack.

3-400 LBs lighter and RWD vs AWD and a 9K redline

is not fun to drive

i knew you would say something along those lines

but they are completely different cars

for spirited driving I would take an RX-8 anyday because I don't find running 1/4 miles over and over again "fun"

the RX-8 if fun for the same reason the mini cooper S is fun (even though the S is FWD)

My econobox is faster than a Cooper, yet the cooper handles like a go kart.

He wants good power, good handling , fuel economy, room for 4, nice interior, in a non - "boy racer" package.

And yes, it is indeed fun to drive.

If he wants great power, great handling, RWD, and a nice interior for $45,000 he should be looking at 05 Corvettes. It won't get any better for the money.

fun is all relative

all I was saying if he was driving an RX-8 a legacy is not as nearly as much fun to drive

and he said he found this to be true, which I said was not surprising

i'll agree with the vette suggestion though that thing is the best of both worlds

Some of us encounter this thing called weather from time to time.😉

The GT is awsome in the rain with the AWD. I could never, ever drive like I do now in the other cars (FWD or RWD) I have owned.

I'd also suggest an Audi S4 but I don't know how much time he likes his car to spend in the dealer's service dept.

How bad is the S4 with reliability? I like the car and was considering it... but it's kind of a pig (weight wise) and honestly I like something I can flick around a bit. Power isn't the greatest thing for me, but compared to the RX-8 anything in POWER is an improvement. Handling in the RX-8 is great, it flicks around really great... I just need something more 'mature' 🙂 Oh, and with better gas mileage!
