I was wondering, who do newsgroup provders pay for access? Such as giganews is there a provider higher then them who supplies them with access? How does the whole process work?
I don't know specifically, but I expect that interchange between the largest news servers (and I think Giga is on that list) is treated as data traffic like any other bits.

yeaaaaaaaaaaap
they jsut have big fat pipes to the internet and they exchange traffic. THEY are the newsgroups top tiers... think of it as email and nothing more... except if you send an email to one server it goes to them all.
There pretty much just like an isp aren't they? They host a ton of servers that contain the usenet posts/files and have them hooked up in a datacenter. They probably pay for tiered bandwidth.
