My dad had hip replacement surgery after falling off his bike in 1992, and while you will eventually be better off than you were before surgery, you will never have as much mobility as a real healthy hip joint offers. Certain things may be just about the same as when your hip was healthy, but the artificial hip doesn't allow as much flexibility or range of motion as an "actual" hip so certain activities aren't possible. My dad can't really (and isn't supposed to) raise his hip up much more than a 90 degree angle with his body which meant that after surgery he could no longer ride a regular bicycle like he used to, but he is still able to ride a recumbant today.Originally posted by: HappyPuppy
There was a pro NFL player in the 90's sometime who had hip replacement surgery and he went back to play again. I don't know if there is a difference in the "quality" of the surgeon or not, but you should be able to do anything you want in time.
