NEW YORK ? News Corp., the parent company of book publisher HarperCollins and the FOX network, has canceled publication of the O.J. Simpson book and television special "If I Did It."

"I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project," said Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman. "We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson."

In the book, the one-time football superstar tells how he would have killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman if, in fact, he had done it.

? Speakout! What Do You Think About O.J.'s Nixed Deal?

A dozen FOX affiliates had already said they would not air the two-part sweeps month special, planned for next week before the book's publication.

One station manager who had said he wasn't airing the special said he was concerned that whether or not Simpson was guilty, he'd still be profiting from murders.

I was shocked that this was even going to happen!

is it a R? I saw threads on the actual thing but not on the fact that it was getting axed. Does it need a new thread? maybe not.

I can't believe he would agree to it in the first place. What -possible- scenario would be good?
he really is innocent - WHY would you even speculate
he really is guilty - WHY would you just affirm what people believe

For someone who got off with "if the glove don't fit..." line, he sure is making every effort to keep speculation up. I guess being out of work sucks.

OJ Simpson is a piece of sh!t, and News Corp would have been a similar piece of sh!t for releasing that.

Yeah, right, all of a sudden Rupert Murdoch has standards.

Well, they did cancel it. Airing that program would have been wrong.
