I'd just like to know the reasoning behind locking threads without personal commentary that contain a link to a news story and/or the quoted text of that story.

Surely it can be inferred that the original poster would like to raise the story for discussion, so why is a personal take on the story necessary in the original post that contains the link to or text of the story?

Thanks.

Commentary must be provided by the OP when posting news articles. Otherwise, it is just trolling & spam.

Not necessarily. It's typically the comments that come after it that are trolling and spam.

There's plenty of ones with OP commentary that are still trolling and spam. Since it makes no difference, why bother with the rule?

If people are required to post something of substance, they may not jsut post to post.

Then the Moderator(s) can determine is the commentary is acceptable.

Yep.

I would also like to suggest that the OP has to type out the whole article. No links, no copy/paste.

The rule was put in place because too many folks were posting articles and doing nothing else. There was no benefit, and members were complaining that it was just spam. So we created that rule after discussing it internally. This is a discussion forum, not a news aggregation service. We all become stronger by listening to each other and having rational discourse around things. That is why AT is so awesome. If you just want spammed articles on random junk, there's lots of that elsewhere.

It's the Riprorin rule. There weren't "too many folks", there was one person. I'm sure certain mods didn't like it, and instituted it in order to stop the behavior. It was perfectly acceptable before then.

think about what you just said.....
Now think about how many people would flood P&N with article after article.....
I bet you could name perhaps 20 people just off the top of your head.....

Very good rule -- commentary with article!!

I didn't say it was right or wrong. Just gave a more accurate perspective of why it came about.
