Never had any, but the profits go to charity, so it's kinda neat.

«Over US$370 million, according to the Newman's Own Foundation website, has been generated for charity since 1982», according to wikipedia.

If I wasn't such a cheapskate (who therefore buys no-name products), I'd buy these.

This is the way it should be done.

I bought some "Larry the Cable Guy" deluxe style macaroni once and the package said profits go to charity or something. On the package, Larry says: "You're gonna love it!"

That motherf****r lied. That shit was COMPLETELY inedible. If I was a celeb, I would never do that to my image.

Paul did it the right way. Associate your name with something you WANT it to be associated with.

My mother likes them a lot. I like them pretty well too, but I suspect I wouldn't like them considering the price. I've never bought one, but I assume they're on the high side.

it's been awhile since i bought one but i seem to think it was similarly priced to Red Baron.

I'm guessing that most of the products are manufactured by a few select food distributors and simply rebranded. I'm not sure if the Newman's Own brand is vertically integrated or if they outsource, but I'm guessing they outsource since the they are trying to fund the Newman's Own Foundation Charities...not sure how much of that, if any ends up in the Newman family pockets....but I'm sure they have board members that take their cut.

Frozen pizza is tricky to buy. I like bottom end, and ultra premium. The ones in the middle are meh. Bottom end is what it is. For around $1 you get a decent tasting snack, and since it doesn't look like a real pizza, it evades comparison to one.

Ultra premiums are well made with interesting ingredients. A little expensive. but make a nice treat. They also aren't like real pizza, but the style is something that's hard to buy at a shop.

Medium end pizza looks good, but they always fall down on taste. It looks like a shop pizza, but has a mediocre taste, and crappy consistency. The price is comparable to a Little Caesar pizza which is 10 times better, and uses someone else's energy to make it.

tl;dr
I hate Red Baron, and other pizza in it's class :^D

I found the "Amy's" brand pizza to be the best of the frozen pizzas, but it's expensive as hell and the pizza seems smaller than most others in it's class.

I like them too. I'm a fan of Amy's in general. Imo, it's the benchmark for quality frozen food. I don't get it often because I make a lot of it myself for less money, but every so often it's nice for the convenience.

The Newman's K-cups for Keurig coffee pots are excellent. The only ones I like better are the "Pacific Bold" ones that Costco recently introduced. Before those, the Newman's was my usual pod.

I mostly buy it when it goes on sale at the local wholesale outlet; when you get $3 off of a 3 pack, its price actually matches that of the lower quality stuff. Usually when this happens I'll go back several days in a row, stocking up at the cheaper price, and then store them in my extra freezer in the garage until they run out.

They make excellent frozen burritos as well; the best I've had of all the different brands I tried out.

OP obviously doesn't shop at supermarkets.

Newman's Own is a well-established brand. OP just noticed a fastfood joint mention that they had Newman's Own sauce or dressing for some temporary product and thought it was a Burger King thing?

They were at Burger King. When I was 8 years old I used to mow the lawn at my local BK as a summer job and they were there. That was in 1990 or 1991.

I love their Spaghetti Sauce and Alfredo Sauce.
Otherwise, haven't tried or seen much else.

No comment on NSA supermarket. It sounds like the kind of place one would want to avoid, except I'm sure it's impossible to avoid, They have free run of the interwebs, they probably have access to all the CCTV systems in all the supermarkets in the USA.

Don't worry about it.
They only look into your grocery history if you inquire about halal meats.

Careful with that. The coffee nazi's will be on you like stink on poop. Around here, "Keurig" is to "coffee" as "Monster" is to "cable"...

I tried Newman's Own frozen pizza and it was good. Not nearly as good as homemade, but still good, unlike DiGiorno which was complete garbage.

Funny you mention that.
I have called and asked about halal meats at restaurants to see if it would be a good place to take a Muslim friend for lunch.

You should ask him if he'll eat kosher. Many Muslims will eat kosher meat since it includes all the same slaughtering requirements that halal does (plus some added factors).

That would open a lot of options since we work in a pretty Jewish area, lots of Kosher Delis and such in the area.

I understand the slaughtering is similar, as far as making sure the blood is not in the meat, etc. Thanks for the tip.
