I just built a new box for my kid.
ASUS A7v266 A/EE
Duron 1 g
ASUS V7100 GeForce2 video card
Kingston 512 PC2100 Valueram
Lite On CD-R/W
Floppy
Maxtor 40 gig MX6L040
KDS RAD 5 Monitor
Antex Mid Towr, Antec 300w ps

It turns on, power light goes on, cpu & north bridge fan turn on, HD light flashes once, CD flashes. No Beeps, nothing on the monitor.
Monitor works on another computer, another montior has same results on this one. If I remove RAM or Video, I get the appropriate
BEEP codes. Any suggestions for my next step? Thanks .

Start out with the basisc cpu memory video hsfan see if it will boot if so then add one thing at a time until you find out what the problem is.

I tried the basic config - memory, cpu, hsfan, video. No beeps, nothing. I only get beeps if the video or memory are out. At this point
I'm guessing its the cpu or mb; of these, I would guess the mb. Looking around at this and other forums, I don't seem to be the only
person having a problem with this mb. Can you (or anyone) think of anything else I might try? Thanks.

actually your results would point to a problem with either the video card or the RAM, when you get beep codes, this tells us that the mobo is functioning, (at least to an extent) I would start with cpu mobo RAM and see if you get beep codes, if you do I would try another video card in there, see if you can boot up, let us know how it turns out.

OK - solved the initial problem. Tried a different video card and it went to BIOS. Reseated the orginal video card - worked. I must have
tried reseating it 3 times before, but apparently not hard enough :). Next problem - BIOS shows 256 memory installed, but I have a
512 DIMM. Any ideas on that one? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

first, are you sure its a 512MB DIMM?
second, what brand is it? some lower quality brands only work in specific motherboards.
also, does the motherboard support 512 DIMMs?

EDIT: well look at that, he said what brand of RAM it was in his first post, I need to learn how to read.

Yes, according to the manual, support 3gig of memory in 3 memory slots. They specifically reference 512mb DIMM's elsewhere in the manual.
The chips I have are Kingston ValueRam 512MB 266MHZ DDR PC2100 DIMM CL2.5 . I'll try seating the DIMM in a different slot - anything else
you can think of?

do you have any other machine you can test the RAM in? if you don't you can write down the serial number of the DIMM and look up what size fo DIMM it is.

They're definitely 512; the label on th box and on the dimm itself says KVR266X64C25/512. I'm about to play around with it some more,
so we'll see what I can figure out. I don't have any other PC that will use this DIMM. Thanks for the suggestions.

:D JOY - Problem solved. On a hunch, based on something I read in a thread about another mb, I took mine out and found that there was
a brass spacer that was not aligned with any screw hole in the mb, and was likely shorting out something. It was conveniently located
right next to the DIMM slot. I took it out, put the board back and VOILA - 512meg of RAM. Now onto the real fun - formatting the hd
and loading WinXP.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice.
