Newest Doom3 benchmarks

Thanks 🙂 Looks like they are getting hammered though.

How about some benchmarks on a non-specific mobo? I hate how AMD and Nvidia are trying to milk gamers with these Nforce mobos mfkn mofos :|

Almost every review out there uses the VIA, and some of us are damned curious about where the forceware opts help. They don't significantly impact performance of the ATi cards in a negative way, and evidently help them over the VIA in some games, so I see no problem with it.

Don't know why the link is so slow now. I clicked through to it from here

I bought my VNF3-250 about 4 months ago for $77 shipped (new from ZZF), I don't feel I got "milked" either

for those who cant load it, here is conclusion

o what have we learned from playing Doom 3 non-stop for the last few days? For starters, it's one hell of a game. Not only is it one of the scariest games ever made, it is one of the best looking and most enjoyable I've ever played. But to enjoy Doom 3 in all its glory, you really do need some quality hardware.

As we saw today, you would be very hard pressed to find any hardware on the market that can run Doom 3 with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering maxed out at high resolutions. That just isn't going to happen right now.

What we learned today was that NVIDIA's backing of Doom 3 is definitely not unfounded. At press time we weren't able to get a working GeForce 6800 GT or Ultra graphics card running on the AGP bus, but we'll be getting those in later this week. Still, the standard GeForce 6800 was able to run Doom 3 almost as fast as the Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition, a card almost double its price.

NVIDIA's NV40 based cards are without a doubt what you want to be running in your system to get the most out of Doom 3 you can. In our next article we'll compare performance between the 6800 Ultra/GT/standard on various test rigs, including low-end and mid-ranged systems so you can get a better grasp on how your system will perform when running Doom 3

Why are they comparing a plain 6800 to a X800 Pro and X800XT PE? Guess it is all they had.

Thats what it looks like. At first I didnt read the article just looked at the numbers, then realized they were comparing Nv's next gen low end to ATI's next gen mid and high end. Didn't seem fair, so I actually had the read the article

For doom3 it turned out more than fair didn't it? 😉

I find it interesting the X800 Pro loses to the 5950 in some of these benchmarks.

You mean it loses in one benchmark by a hair at unplayable settings? Yay for the 5950, it can run 1600X1200 4x/8x at 21.8fps!

Saying that the X800 Pro loses to the 5950 in "some of these benchmarks" is ridiculously misleading.

However, one interesting case is 800X600 w/ 4XAA/8XAF, where the 5950 hangs quite nicely with the X800 Pro (41.6 fps vs 52).

Still, take off AA and crank the res and the previous-gen cards die; there's nothing to save the 5950 and the 9800 Pro from any of the new cards.

The two biggest things that struck me from this review were the FX6800's impressive performance (~54 fps at 1280X1024 HQ is awesome), and the bizzarre fact that they used Nvidia's 5950 and ATI's 9800 Pro, not XT. You'd think if they were going all the way with the 5950, why not use the competitor's top end card from last generation as well...?
