oh man. that sucks!!! wheel locks shouldve stopped that

Are you kidding me? A hammer and a socket would defeat any wheel lock out there.

yea and who the hell would put wheel locks on stock wheels?

Frankly, reverse threaded lugs are more likely to stop wheel theft than pansyass wheel locks.

Probably, but then I would end up breaking a stud off because I forgot they were reverse. 😛

A lot of new cars are coming with wheel locks on stock wheels nowadays. (Alloy wheels)

Maybe the owner took them off before going on vacation 😀
Did the underbelly of the car get damaged too from this seesaw?
That would piss me off big time.

umm... it's a deterrent. This obviously happened in the cover of darkness... and right outside the apartment. You don't think shattering glass or the hammer itself would wake *someone* up ? And alarm systems have shock warning tones... that would do it too. They likely would've moved onto easier prey without wheel locks.

Seems like a nice area, WTF? Wheel theives target well to do areas? Good thing I put my car in the garage.

If the penalty for that kind of theft was death it would deter it as well. All thieves need to die. I had my stereo stolen from my car. With the insurance money I purchased a gun. I would recommend not trying to steal anything from my house. 😉

Too bad this is a democratic country w/ way too many human rights groups. You can't defend your own castle w/o getting counter sue by the robbers

I haven't looked long and hard at the car, but from what I can telll the only thing touching the ground are the rotors. The scion that got hit last month fell forward like this mazda, but its front bumper/spoiler hit the curb on the way down and had to support the weight of the car. I'm guessing some body work was required with that car.

Fine, they could use two car batteries to make a simple welder and weld a socket onto the lug. It's not rocket science. If they want your wheels, they will have your wheels. Either way, I doubt I would wake up to the sound of a hammer hitting metal at night.

fwiw, I didn't wake up when they smashed my window out in the middle of night. It was raining with heavy thunder/lightning that night, but I don't think I would have woken up anyway. I do have an alarm that is loud enough to wake me up now. I hope it doesn't have to prove its worth though.

right, if they want it they'll get it. the point of the locks on stockers is so it makes the job a bit more difficult then the next guy down the street with the exact same wheels w/o locks. they would then go and steal those instead.

Well my car is in my garage so they would be inside my dwelling. "Honestly officer it all happened so fast. I saw something metal in his hand and I thought it was a gun." 😉

Who said they were stock?

OMG!! KingPhil solved the mystery!!! M4H..RETURN THE RIMS NOW!!!

Just as an update, the Mazda owner had new wheels put on late Monday evening. That was a fast response by the insurance company (faster than any o the other cars in the lot).

They have either moved out or started parking their car offsite. I have not seen the car again since Monday night. Probably a smart move.
