Well, Got it up and running.

P IV 2.8 ghz,
1 GIG Kingston HYPERX Memory
1 40 gig boot drive mirrored to another 40 gig drive
4 80 gig hdds and 4 60 gig hdds on a highpoint raid 404 card.
the 80s are striped into 1 volume and the 60s are stripped as another.
Enermax 550 watt PSU,
SCSI tape backup, and CD ROM
2 120 mm fans
2 80 mm fans
15 40 mm fans
Asus P4PE mobo
ATI Radeon 64 mb vid card
Windows 2003 Ent Server.
Enermax file server case


And I still have room for more 6 more hard drives and 4 more fans.
 
I do not have a digital camera, sorry.

And that is a beast for a home based server.

It may wind up being a game server, as in UT2004, CS, or something like that. Very soon it will be serving up about 50 gigs of MP3s, and acting as a dns and dhcp server.

 
and ..... wtf is the point of having a beast server like that in your house?

serious question too ... whawt do you use that for?

I would, but all the toys get bought for the kid now.

And also, since I have a static IP address hrough mindspring/earthlink. It will probably be a web server as well.

Nice set up. I wish I could afford something like that.

My dual 800 with 1 gig pc 133 ram is still running.

My wife tells me I am married to my computer room. She refuses to come down there.
 
wait. im confused. what the hell are you goign to do with this in YOUR HOUSE?!?

and i still have no idea how to set anything up in RAID or what stripped hdd's mean, or what a mirrored 40 gig hdd is. hahahaha
 
This actually replaces my Dual P III 800 Server that is still running after 3 years.

It will server as:
MP3 server
File server: Applications, drivers, documents, databases, etc
DNS server
DHCP server
Domain controller
Web server,
Gaming server
and lab server.

The dual 800 will still function, probably as a standby Web server.
