I was suggesting the Opty 165 as a upgrade for a 939 socket single core to someone, and I was asked about them being a rebadged X2. I have read some things about the LCB9E steppings being a rebadged X2, some say they are all the same anyway, some say no, a true Opty should have the better memory controller over an X2, and that the LCB9E is actually a plain X2 Toledo core.
Newegg seems to be shipping the LCB9E for the Opteron 165, 170, and the 3800+ X2
Anyone knowledgeable enough to comment on this?
P.S. With the so cheap DDR2 ram, and even more CPU price cuts on the horizon, I'm probably going to suggest he sell what he has and go DDR2 anyway. Though I still would like to know what is the truth about the rebadge question.
