<< Well, I took a deep plunge on all this crap ($embarrassed.00). I'm hoping that at least a third of it is repairable/usable. It seems like about two thirds of the cost is in shipping!

This looks more like a large lot of equipment other than Newegg's own RMA's. Maybe they bought out a large auction lot from a large contract service repair company.

Here's some of the stuff I picked up:
some msi gf2 pro 64mb, a few ati cards, a few 17"/19" monitors, several smart medias, several pIII chips, a bunch of floppies, few hard drives, some cdrws, some dvds, cpu fans, pIII boards, some cases, a bunch of PS's, and some keyboards.

At worst case I have some empty cases and a bunch of stuff to tinker with (hence my handle).

They must have had a boat load of some of these items. Most of these items were listed for quite a while after I got mine.

Good luck to all who got in on it but expect the worst!
>>

To the contrary, these are newegg in-house OEM RMAs according to their customer service. 99% of what newegg sells is OEM and cannot be returned to the manufacturer. My guess is that they are simply clearing out their warehouse with this "as-is" sale in ieu a quick trip to the dumpster. Unlike your typical buyer at your local Best Buy,CompUSA, or other large retailer, the typical newegg customer is somewhat technically inclined . IMO, the chances of finding a newegg RMAed item that is OK is actually very slim, but fot those who enjoy tinkering with such things think of the money spent on these items as you would with any entertainment.

GetReal,

Yea, your probably right.

but I just gotta share this funny which I hope is "a typical Newegg customer"

Bought a nice "refurbished" thermaltake HSF the other day from them. I looked on the bottom of the heat sink and I saw a perfect impression of an XP chip in the pink tape that covers the thermal compound! I wouldn't be surprised if he fried his chip!

Wow, there were "lots of threads about this" on here, yet within hours after your post, rodan, everything sold out!!
I thank you for posting, and I'm sure NewEgg thanks you too! :)

Hey I have some broken monitors and crap that could "conceivably" be good, any of you want to buy them? You name the price but pay shipping. No, I'm kidding, I know they're bad. Seriously, if I can hijack this topic a sec, how do people here dispose of accumulated broken electronics? My trash won't pick them up and the landfill costs money and time.

I'm probably gonna regret emptying my "newegg basket", and starting this thread. Stumblebum1, if even one of those AMD's work, I gotta know, please post to this thread when you find out what works!( That goes for anyone who bought something under " Some good, some bad" deal. Newegg may have the answer on how to get rid of junk parts, but, then, I'm guessing they throw in a good one , into a deal.

I suspect they are about to do an annual inventory and they are trying to get rid of the defective OEM stuff and make a few $$$ at the same time they clear out their old inventory.

Wow, it's hard not to buy some of that stuff! 19 inch monitors $ 5.00, plus $ 29.00 shipping. IF this is a way Newegg.com wants to keep from paying the junkman to haul it off, it could backfire. Think about it, if this stuff is ALL junk, how many of you would even consider buying legitimate, warrantied items, in the future, from them? I think, ( my opinion) not all the stuff is dead. OK, I will put some things in my newegg basket, and, process it. Why not. It's only money.

I see lots of people posting here all the timne insinuating that newegg refurbs are junk, but very few if any of these people actually say they have personally received refurb junk, or know someone who has.

Personally, I bought a readeon LE refurb there in december, and have no complaints. Guess I must have just been lucky ...

Those who bought this stuff, please post your results! I'd be so ticked if 25% or more worked. ;)

I bought a "refurb" Shuttle AK31 from Newegg back in January. (Hard to believe it is already February!) IT WORKS GREAT!!!! The only problem is that I don't know if it is ver 2 or 3.1. The board says v 2 but the bios that came flashed in the rom was a v 3.1 bios. The box says 3.1 and the serial number on the box matches the serial on the board. One thing is for sure, it runs. I have been testing the heck out of it to see if it will break before the 30 day warranty. So far, so good :)

I bought countless motherboards and video cards, some other items...and they were all refurbished from Newegg. So far only, three items had to go back. Overall, i'd rather like their refurb items and 30 days policy.

I bought 2 MS OS CD's. We'll see what I get. At the very least I'm hoping for licences.

As soon as i test them i will post in this thread my results. The main reason I bought the tbirds is that New egg has never sold a cpu as a refurb....Another thing to consider is i don't believe New egg test any of there rma returns,I think they just resell them as refurbs and let the next buyer do the test for them.If you look at there refurb page you will see the same motherboards, video cards etc being resold again and again.

I bought a refurb ATI Rage 2000 and there was something wrong with it, made the monitor pulse kinda like if you had the refresh set to 30mhz (if thats possible) but for $20 shipped it was worth a try.

I went ahead and bought a few items. If just some of the stuff works, I'm covered. Held off on the refurbished monitors, though, that would be a gamble, the stiff shipping, plus, you'd have to pay to throw it away then. Will definitely test the stuff when it comes in next week, and post my results on
what works, and doesn't. Will be interesting to see, how many of those cpu's will work Stumblebum
bought. He might have made the best deal, but, then, oh well, let's wait and find out :), and, I wish
everyone good fortune on their purchases.

Ok, what the hell does this mean?

OEM software - some good, some bad - scratches? This is exactly the same text which appears on all of these items.

The real question is whether these items are pulls or refurbs. I find it hard to believe that all of these "refurb" items are refurbs simply because Newegg would have to have a staff of 60 techs working full time to do this type of work - just not worth it.

Low end nics and vid cards are probably pretty safe but I don't know about TBirds (how do you refurb a TBird? Yea, I know it's possible, but do you really think Newegg pays guys to swap out resistors so they can sell the chips for $2?). These are still worth a lot of money even if they are used. They were probably DOA chips that Newegg didn't want to hassle testing. I would have bought those TBirds, and I'm very eager to hear about them.

I'm still leaning toward this stuff coming from outside of Newegg's RMA's. (i.e., large buyout of a service/repair contractor, a large auction of misc surplus or system pulls from a major computer manuf.)

I know a previous poster spoke with a CSR who said they were Newegg's RMA's but honestly, I've never found those folks to be reliable with their own information.

When's the last time you saw 14" CRT monitors for sale? There were several other items that hinted of some age that was before Neweggs time.

I'll post my results next week when I get em.

I was curious myself. So I called NewEgg. They said they are misc games and applications bundles, and none will come with CD-Keys if needed. So basically you could get a broken CD, and no key to use a burned warez copy. Maybe the MS OS was a better deal but it is sold out now.
