LOL! It's not Newegg that artificially raises prices. This is what people are willing to pay for them. Supply and demand. Take an Econ 101 class. You'll understand perfectly after that.

It's the whole thing about just because you can it doesn't mean you should.

If you owned a business and knew people wanted this item you were getting and they would pay a premium to get it, you sure as hell would charge them that amountt.

except part of this whole equation is reputation. they generate ill will with the community by pulling this ******, and then people like me make a point of buying their 975x board, dx10 card, Hdd, somewhere else. i didnt appreciate newegg's bullshit with the 512 7800gtx's for 799 et al either. No free market guys should bitch about this either. what i just described above is part of the free market too

I checked yesterday, E6300 was $210 on Oupost, $220 on ZZF, and $230 on Newegg.

Great to hear all these n Econ majors...

Many of us have valid points against this new war of prices.

1. Yes its free market and e-tailer will price up in a high demand, and that is perfectly fine in econ as long as they have buyers.

2. Gouging is what the GAS prices are!!!!

3. Overpricing does hurt a reputation, short returns may equal long losses. (IE losing valuable customers)

4. Waiting for continuous stock is the best bet for the market, it will make e-tailers have to level prices to sell what they have in stock. They cannot afford to pay johnny stock boy to just move stuff from spot to spot.

So everyone should stop the "evil newegg" comments and realize that they may play a vital part in this situation, as either a buyer or non buyer of the product. Let the fools or impatient pay high now, and let the rest wait for the level market. I mean is your life going to end because you have to wait till Sept. 1st?

Thats my opinion as well. I cannot be angry at newegg for trying to maximise profits. Its just basic business sense at play. Be angry at intel for not having sufficient supply.

E6600

The 6600s are out there. I spent $381 with tax at MicroCenter, but I have mine in hand. I dont have to stress over newegg or zipzoomfly or the package sitting out in 100' temps for an afternoon.

I don't dislike Newegg and will buy from them again. Their price does seem quite high for the E6600 chip right now @ $459 when everyone else is much less. They are usually competitive and offer a similar price or better price than other places. I was really surprised that they're the most expensive.

I didn't like the fact that I got an email that said the chip was in stock at ZZF, and then I saw the price was $60 more than when I had first signed up for the notification, but meh.. it's still not in stock even though I went to the website right after I got the email.

I can buy it for much less at a different e-tailor but even they are charging more than the MSRP... hehe but it looks like noone has them in right now.

Even though I need a new machine right now, I am going to wait since I won't have one by next weekend (which is when I had planned on having a new machine built).

I'm glad I decided to replace my 3000+ venice with a 3800 x2 for $150 and revisit Conroe at the end of the year. I should atleast have a better selection of motherboards to pick from even if the CPU prices haven't dropped.

Meanwhile, I'll just read what you guys are doing with the Conroes as far as OCing is concerned. ;)

The thing is exactly what you said. Nobody has them. So if someone priced it at $199 and had 0 it wouldn't mattter would it? Now if only a few places had them in stock and were selling ar $400 (2x price difference) you'd see alot of people buying them out anyway just to have. You can complain all you want, but I'm sure Newegg has 2million customers where you came from.

You is used generally here.

That's what I did except I plan to wait to see Quad Core CPUs first.

It's not like their higher prices are adjusted at a rate to prevent them from being completely used up/bought

Look:

Newegg could do things two ways. Stick with the prices they advertised (360 or so for a 6600) and let FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE handle the question of who gets what.

Instead, they decide to squeeze as much money as possible from consumers by jacking the price up knowing they don't have much in stock. Their choice, but choices have consequences. If I can help it I won't be buying my 975x board, video card, PSU etc from these places because these practices piss me off. They're losing me in the customer relations segment which is still supposedly an important part of successfully doing business

Except that margins are notoriously low in computer hardware and they will make more money from 1 E6600 sold at a higher price than 10 975x motherboards.
