Newegg's Generosity...

Before I begin, I'd like to make clear I'm not affiliated with Newegg in any way.

Story:

I recently built a new computer. Phenom II 550, 4890, 2 GB of cheap ram. 2 GB doesn't cut it for virtual machines, ordered another 2 GB stick of the same family, Rendition by Crucial PC2 6400.

Accidentally ordered this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148233

Instead of this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148235

Yeah, accidentally laptop RAM instead of desktop RAM.

I called Newegg, said that I didn't even open the package and would like to just return the one I have and order the desktop counterpart.

The lady on the phone told me she is going to credit my account the money for the RAM and I don't have to bother sending it back in...just order the new one.

Anyone else have an experience like this? How can they afford to let me to keep it? I mean, I'm not complaining, I have an M1330 that this is going straight into, but wow.

Um, Newegg FTW.

I personally haven't experienced same thing, but I have heard of it happening before. NewEgg is nice like that sometimes 🙂

The one time I needed customer service help was when Fedex lost my package. Newegg sent a replacement order right away, and when Fedex "found" the original box a couple of weeks later Newegg arranged for pickup without me needing to do anything besides let them know.

No free stuff, but still nice service.

They probably have a limit on value of item that they want RMA due to processing cost. An item under $25 is not worth their trouble and they'll just chalk it down as some misc. expense.

Called once because price of a mobo was $45 more than last time I looked at it. I was given the $45 credit off my next purchase. Smart business. It may have cost them 45 but they have a customer for life.

Yup, there's a reason all us computer nerds spend hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars there over the years. It helps that their prices are fair and their shipping excellent, of course.

See, that's what I thought at first, but seriously?

I made a point to them that I didn't open the package at all. It would really cost them
over $22.99 to just receive a package and add 1 to their inventory?

Imagine going to Wal-Mart to return something for 20 bucks, then having them say, 'don't fret, just keep it, we'll refund your money.' Even Wal-Mart has to do more to cut their losses; return the item, tag it, check for if it can be restocked, restock it, then sell it again. That must take more employee power than anything Newegg's gotta do.

PS: My paging file usage in my laptop just SANK.

This doesn't involve Newegg at all, but Logitech gave me nearly an entire new speaker set (z-5500s) for free because I thought mine was broken (but it wasn't, I was just an idiot).

Giving me 5 of 6 pieces of a new $300 system + shipping probably cost them a bunch, but I will most definitely buy their products again as I know how strongly they stand behind their warranty.

Logitech is amazing and the reason why I don't buy any computer peripherals that aren't under their brand. I broke 2 mx1000 mice within the span of a year, the sent me a new one no questions after the first time, and when the second one broke, they upgraded me to an MX revolution because the MX1000's "weren't working out for me"

close to it, because the distribution is optimized in one direction i.e. from newegg to you. not only that, but newegg is the model for efficiency itself. i have to say, they go to any length to keep you a happy customer. unfortunately for my wallet, i am a very happy customer.

Newegg really does a great job with returns. I sometimes wonder how they stay in business really, but I guess word of mouth like this thread for instance, is priceless.

Hmm, that's pretty impressive.

I just wish they'd stop overcharging for everything on newegg.ca

Ive spent thousands at newegg, and couldn't be happier than I am shopping there.

By the time you figure them receiving and processing the part, and likely having to sell it as open box (even though sealed, I think it has to be open box if it gets shipped out) at a discount, it's not likely worth it for them.

Logitech did something similiar for me. My original Harmony remote died, so I went out and bought the same model off of a clearance rack. 3 days later, the new one developed lines across the display that refused to go away.

I filled out a support form just asking if there was something I could do, they took my information and actually sent me TWO new remotes to replace both of them. Granted, I did say that I bought the new one to REPLACE my old one and only needed the one, but they went the extra mile there.

Now I have two remotes for both TVs. It's made me a lifetime customer.

i suspect the same thing.

the ram is 23 bucks.

cost of shipping is like 10, then to find where to put it has to be more than 13 dollars in wages

I wish I could buy Newegg stock, but I don't think it's possible. You really have to love a company that makes you feel like they actually work for you. Bless em!

Logitech did this to me also. I have there G11 keyboard called them up because some keys weren't working and they just said keep the broken one we will ship out a new one asap.

Yeah, Newegg isn't always the cheapest price, but it's usually pretty close and you know you're going to get good service.
