I was looking at this laptop earlier today.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215389

At the time, it had three eggs, and two reviews.
One of the reviews is one egg, and one review is five eggs.
Which averages out to three eggs total.

Now it still has the same two reviews listed, but it is showing four eggs.

Funny math by newegg? Are they "adjusting" their egg ratings shown on the page, for BF?

Edit: Busted! Can we trust Newegg's shown "egg rating" anymore, without delving into the reviews and ratings and calculating our own averages?

Let's all hope that this is some sort of temporary, un-intentional, "glitch" in their system, and not them systematically adding a fraction of a point to all of their product ratings, in order for them to be rounded up one whole egg.

Then why is that page showing that the product has three reviews, but when you click to the product page itself, and look at the reviews, there are only two?

Why doesn't the "egg rating" next to the product pictures show three reviews, even if the third review wasn't posted to the reviews page yet?

Still not right.

theyre already hurting themselves a little by allowing negative reviews on their site. let them dress it up a little.

Elaborate please. How is that different than most other user reviews? Assuming that negative comments are more likely to be posted, and that this would be consistent across all users, and we all know that... why should we cut them slack?

i wouldn't hastle the EGG about such a small discrepency... IMO any rating system usually has some type of flaws, in the case your pointing out though its true that the Egg Math looks wrong, but in this case your also refering to just 2 reviews, on two opposite ends of the spectrum... KINDA MAKES THE HOLE ARGUMENT MOOT TO BEGIN WITH.... Large discrepencys with the ratings system with 10 or more reviews would be more of a valid consern IMO. What Bothers me more IMO are the reviewers who put there TECH rating all the way up and they are clearly not einstien, I put my Tech rating right down the middle but have seen tones of people who obviously know less then me on there with it all the way up.

Also i dont know how many of you have used NewEgg for anything other then reviews... I haven't ordered anything from them in a Long while for a few years could be know actually.... But when i use to, They were the Best. Quality, prices, shipping speed... and even when i occationally had an issue, there customer service would even remburse my return shipping for the RMA replacements.

EDIT: someone who has more recent experience with them please comment, because IMO if they are still as good as they use to be, they can Definitly afford to have some discrepency or rating errors, cause IMO that would be a reall minor issue in the big picture

because they could just save the money it costs to put the user reviews up there in the fist place, or they could at least post only positive user reviews. it really doesnt do them much good to post the negative reviews... it helps sometimes and hurts others.

If you notice, the 1 egg review has been down voted by other users. They may devalue a rating depending on feedback.

Anyone who bases their purchases on NewEgg reviews deserves what they get. You're just being plain silly.

That is entirely plausible. 5 out of 7 people disapproved of that review when I checked. That rating could easily carry less weight because of it. That strikes me as a sensible system.

Newegg "egg rating" is only for novice upgraders and builders.
Pay them no attention.

 Unsubscribe to Newegg emails and improve your quality of life.
They have only brought you consternation.

I personally think Newegg has gone down hill some compared to what they once were. My last few experiences weren't too great at all. Not sure I understand their new Marketplace? is that like Amazon's or Ebay stores?
I take all reviews with a grain of salt, but I do read them, then I google up other reviews, preferably pro reviews if possible and judge from there...often times you don't have a lot else to go on but the rating system is still important.

I frequently buy from NewEgg and they've always done right by me. You are much better off reading reviews from tech sites, even those with well known biases (*cough* Toms, [H], legit reviews *cough*)than the reviews on sites that sell products.
