my bro bought a copy and I'm trying to help him install over the phone. where do they put the key? if it's on the shrinkwrap I guess he's screwed because he threw it away....

The key is on a sticker that is on the outside of the shrinkwrap. If that's tossed away, you have no key.

I think Newegg customer support told him what to do to get a replacement key from MS.

When I bought mine from Newegg the sticker was on the manual. That was a couple years ago though.

Can't tell if it is on the wrap or the manual. I would assume the wrap since that seems to be a common answer.

Just use a pirated cd key and get the corporate version of xp that does not have to be activated.
