Newegg SATA speed correct-ness?

Forgive me if this has been brought up before - I did a few searches and didn't come up w/ anything. So, I figured I'd ask my question.

It has been my understanding that SATA II hard drives had a theoretical max transfer rate of 300MB/s. Is this correct? If so, where's Newegg getting their 3.0Gb/s that they've labelled all SATA II drives?

Gb = gigabits not gigabytes per second. yes they are right, but not all sata II carry that feature fyi.

I know that Gb = Gigabits rather than GigaBytes...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to get 3Gb/s the drives would have to transfer 375MB/s... that seems to be impossible w/ 300MB/s drives. And that 300MB/s is a theoretical max, isn't it?

I hate marketing exaggeration.

The external max transfer rate of a modern harddrive never exeeds 50-60mb/s anyway...

Oh that's easy. 8 bits + 2 bit overhead thanks to the serial protocol = 10 bits per byte.

Therefor 3.0Gb/s = 300MB/s.

There's a start bit and a stop bit, with 8 bits in-between, per byte.
