Newegg SATA speed correct-ness?

I know that Gb = Gigabits rather than GigaBytes...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to get 3Gb/s the drives would have to transfer 375MB/s... that seems to be impossible w/ 300MB/s drives. And that 300MB/s is a theoretical max, isn't it?

I hate marketing exaggeration.

It has been my understanding that SATA II hard drives had a theoretical max transfer rate of 300MB/s. Is this correct? If so, where's Newegg getting their 3.0Gb/s that they've labelled all SATA II drives? 😕

Oh that's easy. 8 bits + 2 bit overhead thanks to the serial protocol = 10 bits per byte.

Therefor 3.0Gb/s = 300MB/s.
