Cool. Thanks.

[Edit] - I was happy when I saw Samsung as the brand, but the recent reviews are a bit scary.

Seagate owns Samsung so any new Samsung drive you buy is just a Seagate rebranded as Samsung.

not to argue but do you know if seagate uses samsung's hdd factory or if they shut it down. Samsung had a factory for building the hdds so did they

A) close it
B) sell it to seagate
c) keep it and retool it for ssd's .

If A is true or C is true you would be correct if B is true and the hdds come out of samungs old factory you would be wrong.

My hdds are a bit older and have worked well. So you may be correct. Since recent reviews suck.

Nice price but for the reviews and only 1 year warranty.

And it's a 5400 RPM drive. By today's standards, that's just slow. There's a reason Samsung got out of the rotational drive business. I have two of their 1TB 7200 RPM F1s, and they are the last spinners I will buy.

I recall reading somewhere that Seagate has closed Samsung's factories and is simply rebranding Seagate hard drives as Samsung.

But that's just my recollection so take it for what it's worth.

yeah you could be correct and if you are i would not rush out and get it.

i am still stung from seagates 500 gb 7200rpm 2.5 inch hdds purchased from 2008 to 2009. 8 for 14 failure rate . then 6 for 8 fail on the rmas total of 14 out of 22 bad. dates of aug 2008 to may 2009. since that time I don't use seagate 2.5 inch drives.

to be fair seagate was the first company with 2.5 inch hdds at 7200rpm and 500gb size. no one built one from aug 2008 to sept 2009 then hitachia made them. but the early seagates were terrible i remember a 60000 reply thread on seagate support fu fu fu fu fu fu was the most common theme seagate closed the thread . I stopped with seagate 2.5 inch hdds over that drive.
