Newegg Refurb Boards...What do you get ?

I am wondering with the Newegg Refurbished motherboards what accessories do you get with them. It says nothing comes with them, but I figure they have to at least give you the backplate...right ?

They send whatever was returned back to them from the original purchaser..... Can't understand why anyone buys something that someone else already had a problem with, user error or not.

You won't get a backplate with most boards. You can request it from some manufacturers. Asus will send you an accessory pack with cables and backplate for about $25.

I bought a Premium refurb and it came with board and backplate. I think it was a board repair from Asus. I hate and don't recommend refurbs of any products, as stated above why buy something that someone else already had a problem with. I got mine because of boneheaded personal reasons. Even though I like it and haven't had any issues I still regret getting it and with I paid the extra $40.

It just seems like you just hate the concept of refurbs. I also noticed not one person so far said that the refurb didn't work. That's the important part.

I think sometimes with the refurbs they do come from the factory rather than just returns. With the refurbs it mean sometimes getting a better board and having an extra $40 left over for a better video card. That's not so bad.

i got a dfi lanparty ultra b (socket a) with everything... but then i realized why they returned the board...

.... board won't do more than 180 mhz stable... 🙁

The Ebay seller Asusparts will mail you a backplate for about $8, just make sure to choose the right one.

Getting backplates is very YMMV with Newegg refurbs. I should know, since I think I've purchased at least 20+ refurbs from them.

Yeah again the extra money makes it easier, but I do hate refurbs. Its part of working as tech at BB for 3 years. Its the stuff we sent back to the manufacturer for repairs that had the worst history of failures after it was repurchased. Again I am glad my board is working and overjoyed if it lasts 2 years, but I don't recomend it.

Also not sure if I mentioned it I got the back plate with mine. I am guessing the only time you wouldn't get it would be if someone was trying to use like an XP90 or such and had to unscrew the mounting device.

i bought an Asus refurb and it had weird coil oscillations. i damped the coils with some adhesive and am still using it.....it's been over a year. it was a really cheap board.....like $30 or something.....threw in an old Athlon XP Barton core and it works fine as a non-gaming machine.

I wouldn't get one because there's no warranty on them. Well, 5 days or something like that. If they had a 1yr warranty, and if they were also a good bit cheaper than a retail version, I may consider it.

Yeah that's a good difference, Any "accessories" wise it's probably usually worth that difference in price if you're just looking a manual, I/O shield, cables and drivers. But it's subjective as to if it's worth it for no warranty. My luck of I got one it would die in 2 or 3 weeks and you'd be screwed....unless you can RMA these to the factory which you probably can't since that may have already been done with them once before.

14 days.

Here's some general info on Newegg refurbs: Some are marked "refurbished" by the manufacturer and thus definately does not have full warranty. Be careful checking prices because sometimes buying refurb doesn't save much money and sometimes it saves a lot of money, so purchase appropriately. Every now and then the subject of refurbs comes up in the Hot Deals forum. Seems like some types of parts are better than others to purchase as a refurb. Just speaking from personal experience...

CPUs - All were fine at stock speeds. Some didn't overclock much (perhaps people returned ones that didn't OC well?).

video cards - Very possible to get ones that don't work or that glitch. Early Summer Newegg had a bunch of refurb Leadtek 6800GT cards for $210. A LOT of them were DOA. I've also had other DOA cards.

motherboards - I probably had a 25% DOA rate.

RAM - Had one dual channel kit that was bad (one stick fails memtest, other stick totally DOA) otherwise all have been fine. YMMV here because RAM prices have dropped so much since last year that there hasn't been a good RAM deal in refurbs for ages - sometimes the refurb costs more than new!!!

HDD - Scary as this may sound, I've gotten a bunch of refurb hard drives and NONE have been DOA. Indeed none have died to date (AFAIK).

barebones - Have gotten a bunch of Shuttle barebones and quite a few DOA. There are fewer of them now because Newegg no longer warrantees them (manufacturers warranty only on a LOT of stuff at Newegg these days).

Again $40 was a big deal for me. But keep in mind that if it doesn't come with the back plate thats another $25, then you may get a reduced warranty, then you have to live with the chance that it is more likely to have a problem then one purchased new. Again I needed a quick replacemnt and thought of it as nice quick upgrade at the price I could sell my old board for once I get the HSF fan replaced. Mine was a quick cheap replacement, I deffinately don't recommend someone base and build their machine around a possibly defective board with a whole lists of problems.
