Newegg refunding 20% for paypal promotion

"Offer might apply, but we won't tell you until after the fact. Buy at your own risk. Receive a FREE week of run-arounds!" is not much of a promo. 🙂 Hence NewEgg's attempt at making good.

This no-brainer, exclusionary solution is one that Leadership would come up with before the close of business day on 11/26 as a patch job to a larger solution to the chaos. Not 8 days later in a time-sensitive shopping season, allowing mass confusion to fester and grow all the more. It's a pretty wimpy reply for all the time they sat on, the funds they tied up, and misinformation they spread all the while.

Wow alot of big talker about newegg not doing what they should. Wasn't this a paypal promo in the first place and isn't newegg fixing paypal's screwup? This is pretty decent of them, that they stepped up and tried to compromise at the least.

I ordered $480 worth of stuff that morning, around 10:30am, during the promotion. I received no such email. Are they only emailing people who bought from 2:30 to 5:30, and if so will those of us who purchased in the morning that day be reimbursed? do we need to call? I never heard word 1 from either Newegg or Paypal on this.

I never got that email either, however, I did just get an email telling me that paypal sent me $50 🙂

Already? Where's my $? I ordered at 1:17AM on the 26th too. 😕

I ordered $239.00 the morning of the 26th and the paypal transaction was completed at 11:40AM PST....

Have not got any emails from egg OR paypal about the promotion either.

so not impressed with the "new newegg" ups shipping sucks. go back to fedex! and the new site is not 1/4 of the old one. I basicly dont shop there anymore.

i'd still say newegg is one of the better online retailers, but i think over the last year or 2 they have fallen off the "greatest retailer ever" spot.

with the no returns policies on monitors, the non combined shipping, etc.... i think now they are just one retailer in your "rotation" that you check for the best prices, whereas when they first appeared you basically could just buy everything there and probably woudl have gotten the best deal on it.

I totally agree. They now have No Return policies on a bunch of stuff. One Item I've been looking at recently is a DVD player/recorder for my entertainment system. Almost every single one they sell is under their No Returns policy. You don't like it or it fails to work as advertised right out of the box? Tough. Eat it or eBay it 'cause they're not taking it back.

Can someone point me to another Top Ten e-tailer that takes that "No Returns" stance with many of their products? Let me know...I will avoid them as well.

1.) As I noted in another thread on this "topic", all the retailers participating in the PP promo had "hard" $ limits set in to the promo from the getgo. Hence all the legal disclaimers for the conditions under which the promo could end before the proposed final day of eligibility, including if the total sales $ limit is met before the end date. Bottom-line, the sale was not advertised to last a set length of time. Now if one choses to ignore the word "OR" that was also part of the same ad clause, as well as all the text following the word "OR", ie. ignored the sale limit disclaimer(s), then that's their fault. It's not Newegg's fault that they have so much traffic/sales that it was only inevitable that they would blow through the sales promo $ limit faster than anyone else. Can you imagine if Amazon had participated ? Now that woulda been crazy !

2.) In general Internet "hot deals" aren't what they used to be, in that there is so much more traffic/attention, and thus competition. Not to mention the promotion, listing (via dedicated sites), etc. of "hot deals" that has literally become a business in and of itself. Bottom-line, learn to get over the disappointment when one misses out on a deal. Oldtimers here at AT (ie. forum members who pre-date the 1999 "reset") learned this lesson long ago with the infamous BUY.CON 19" Samsung CRT fiasco. :wine::wine::wine: ( 😉 )

3.) Finally, a bit more positive news on this topic. For those still wondering if you qualified for the actual PP "rebate" (vs. getting your $'s as a result of Newegg taking one on the cuff for you) - check your email. If you qualified you ought to have received an email from PP informing you that your account has been credited with $50.

Yep, I just received my $50 from Paypal.

Kudos to the Egg. Who hasn't tried to buy an advertised item at say, BestBuy, CC, etc; only to find that the item that's on sale for a week is already out of stock by Wed?! It's called first come, first serve. This promotion was funded by PayPal, not NE (there were plenty of other participating stores). The problem occurred at NE first precisely because NE is a very popular online store and it took no time to reach the quota. In my opinion, NE has already gone above and beyond what's required of it to ensure its customers were served. This incident further demonstrates to me that NE is truly customer-oriented. People who missed out on the deal are in their right to cancel/return the order and shop somewhere else. I'd like to see if they can find another store with better price AND customer service.

I also ordered from Dell on 11-26 before noon, and called paypal and was told I will be paid by end of Jan. Good for you all that get paid early........
Guess I have to wait but heck Dell did not ship yet, but had taken my paypal funds.

I got in before noon so no instant rebate from NE for me. Also no money from PP either. Not a prob as it was stated it would be paid in Jan. My prob is absolutely no info on the 20% back from anyone. No mention in the invoice, no email about it from NE or PP. This thing has felt shaky from the beginning and relying on PP for a rebate or cust service is just asking for probs. Its fine to not be paid till jan but I want a damn confirmation email. This will be a mother to deal with in jan.

True that, AT use to have so much more for freebies/hot deals/ PM the shit out of OM/OD (155%), walkin out with free stuff all the time.

Not to mention real live inventory and lightning fast shipping.

You get what you pay for.

I'd almost find it humorous if Paypal stops doing these promos because of all the whiners who didn't get any free cheese with the promo. Those who are now eligible to get that 20% back because Newegg found it in their good graces to do so should be happy! "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." Newegg DID NOT have to honor jack on those orders after the promo ended. It ended early because of PAYPAL, not Newegg. This happened last year from Paypal, luckily I got in just in time before Newegg ran out of $$$/slots/whatever early. That promo also ended early and people even whined then. There is a need for better communication from Paypal --> online seller --> customer about the terms, etc.

To the people crying about "Financial Hardships" from this mishap...maybe you shouldn't spend so much on computer parts if the money you've ALREADY spent (and the %20 you didn't count on getting back until Jan.) is that much of a blow to you. I've gotten far to many great deals & fantastic customer service with them to stop purchasing with NE.

*And* for the 890,384th time, it clearly says in their email that the deal could fall through at any moment. Go NewEgg for following through with a commitment to help those who may be in that gray area BEFORE you were supposed to even get your original refund anyway. GEEZ!

Some people will never be pleased and will always want more. To those of you that attempt to take advantage of companies during this time, I hope you get 0$ back....and they charge tax in your area.

I feel better now....

It's not a matter of "financial hardship" it's a matter of getting good deals. I bargain shop, not because I have to, but because I like to squeeze blood out of every penny. If I wanted to , I could pay cash for another sports car or take a year off from work, but I don't want to do it......not because I can't, but because I DON'T WANT TO!

Quit referencing some fine print as nearly every advertisement/sale/deal states the same thing. "We have the right to do what we want, how we want, when we want."

That doesn't mean we should be happy when NewEgg exercises that right. It also has the right to charge $100 shipping on every item, does that mean we should be happy about that too?

All I want is the deal that was offered. I saw it was a 2 day sale in the morning before work. YES! Some of us have to work, are responsible for projects and people, and can't surf the internet for "deals." Well, I came home from work to see the 2 day sale had ended.

It is PayPals fault, but it's also NewEggs for not knowing what it was getting itself into. I got the email advertising this fiasco FROM NEWEGG! NOT PAYPAL.

1) I was referring to the "financial hardship" from someone else earlier in the thread, don't know why you bit but alrighty.
2) I don't understand how you extract some completely unrelated and outrageous situation like "charging $100 to ship" but umkay....this was a temporary promotion not a regular shipping fee. :thumbs down;
3) I work as well! :thumbs up;...and since we're e-peening I'm responsible for an infrastructure that spreads over two cities, contains about 600PC's (among other things), has a tick over 200 dedicated users at any given point (plus a few hundred generic accounts) and blah blah blah. I can't afford to pay cash for new sports car or take a year off from work though, so I guess you win???. I value my dollar as much as the next guy (or my according to my wife maybe a bit too much) but I'm not going to incessantly whine on a public forum about a promotion ending, or potentially loosing *at the MOST* $50 dollars.
4) I don't care if it's NewEgg or PayPal...it was a limted promotion that ended. I hope I get my PayPal refund, but I wont be pooping bricks if I don't. Life goes on!
5) You might want to upgrade that CPU in your sig....I hear NewEgg has some good deals on those. 😀

So what kind of sports car do you have?

A little off topic but i made a purchase on 11/28 at overstock.com during the promotion and received my 20% rebate this morning from PayPal.
