Newegg price match = highway robbery

I bought a computer part 2 weeks ago and just two days ago the price dropped 30$ from the original 150$. I requested for the difference and they approved the 30$. But how about the difference in tax?: NO. I have done price matches at B&M electronic and department stores and they give back the differences in tax. Is this how online stores operate?

Be happy they even gave you the $30.

I know it. You sound like my kids. Do I have to sit You down too? Obligatory dad lecture: "Stop talking about what you didn't get and be happy for what you did...." Geez.

Newegg did you wrong. They shouldn't have refunded you a cent. Ingrate ...

This could be a real big accounting issue with Newegg, though. Say they refunded you the $30. The $3 of tax they collected from you was never refunded, so they may keep it. That's against the law to keep tax money, even though it isn't technically owed to the state in the form of sales tax, to keep it seems very dishonest.

At least NE gave you some of the money back. Amazon did not give me any for a lower priced iPod 32GB Touch.

OMG OP - that sucks! Thankfully it sounds like you have survived your horrid ordeal ok. Guys - Highway robbery is no laughing matter - the $3 he is missing clearly ranks up there with rape, assault and battery

That's the point. Imagine the millions of transactions they keep from. Then you'll know they aren't too far from utility companies adding bs extra fees on the bills.

those fees are added by the government

If you had chose to apply that credit (after all, that's what happened. They gave you a credit not a refund)to another product, then the taxes would have self-corrected. Since you elected for cash, there were no taxes to be credited.

Its not that hard to understand.

You got great customer service. They don't have to price match themselves...in fact, for many years, if the product hadn't shipped, they'd adjust the price, but once the item had shipped...that price was locked in.

why are you squabbling over tax?? Seems to me like your just being a douche bag....
Also new eggs price match does not say anything about the tax being returned!!

That's not a price match, that's a courtesy refund. NCIX doesn't do that, it's right in their T&C that once a product ships they will NOT refund any part of the price if it changes on their site. Price matching is done prior to the order being placed. Newegg was just being as awesome as they always were.

I've never had a place give back tax on a price match. They pay over the tax on the original sales price to the state. Why should they give you an additional discount over and above what they agreed to do?
